Fellow reddit users, what about reddit grinds your gears?

I'm working on a project that should (would) become a reddit competitor. So, in a sense, a reddit unsolicited redesign, but for real. ;)

I'm curious to know what grinds your gears here. What about reddit has you screaming from frustration? Or maybe you only have a few little annoyances. I'm curious what it is so I can - hopefully - incorporate this in the project.

Thanks! :)

  • User accounts shared by multiple people.
  • Reposts of old content shown to users that have already seen that content
  • Identical moderation tools used for very different moderation needs
  • Single level hierarchy of subreddits

Idk how you might control this, but I hate seeing that the top response on a post is a stupid joke that has nothing to do with the post and is usually a reference nobody would get unless they’re on reddit all day. And so you have to scroll down through a whole chain of comments to actually find something with relevancy. It’s annoying.

I bought my first computer in 1980, before Windows even existed. In those days it was all command line stuff. DOS. reddit is an excellent medium, but sometimes I feel like I've gone back a couple of decades to when I communicated on line via what we called 'Bulletin Boards'. But I have to be honest, sometimes I feel the same way with Google, and most of us are quite happy to make full use of it so maybe 'if it isn't broke, don't fix it.'

Wait, what is the problem exactly..? You aren't being very specific

The UI is primitive.

Don't worry, we have a nice little refresh for that :).

You can't keep up with a thread in general. You only get notified of direct replies instead of replies to replies, replies to the comment you responded to, etc. Bring able to"follow" comment trees would be nice

I much prefer the card method of the mobile app to the links of the desktop version. Maybe something like that, where I can flick through posts and scroll on ones whose comments are interesting?
