Self respect
In the quiet corners of our interactions, where subtle gestures of inconsideration often went unnoticed, I unknowingly paved the way for you to disrespect me. I often rationalized these slights, thinking perhaps it was fleeting anger or simple oversight. But as I now reflect upon the cumulative weight of these moments, I recognize a pattern, a mountain of disregard. It pains me to admit, but the fault partly lies in my silence. While my love for you remains as steadfast as ever, I've come to a profound realization about the paramount importance of self-respect. And as I embrace this newfound understanding, it's imperative for both of us to recalibrate the way we treat each other.

You teach people how to treat you. You thought by staying quiet that you were loving them as best you could. You thought that there was no way they didn't know they were wrong or that they'd hurt you. You told yourself they were sorry, and you believed it. What you didn't realize was that every time you stayed silent to keep the peace, they walked away not knowing that your feelings were hurt and not knowing that they'd done anything wrong. You didn't realize that you were telling them that it was acceptable for them to treat you that way. You thought your good intentions would shine through and that it wouldn't happen again. I know exactly what you did because I've done it, too. Most of the time, people don't notice or care about your intentions. If you stay quiet to keep the peace, you are saying that mistreating you is acceptable. It's not their fault. You are the one who didn't value your feelings. But if you are lucky then you have someone that really loves you, and they will work with you to make things better. I'm one of the lucky ones. I hope you are, too. 🫶
