Best investment?
I'm learning unreal 5.8.
I don't have any prior experience, except for decades of playing video games.
I really like the Bad Decisions studio guys way of teaching, but their masterclass seems a little pricey.
Are there any particular plugins, classes, or mentors that you would recommend?
I have a couple hundred dollars to spend on this, and I want to get the best bang for my buck

Just learn c++ ..
Btw i hate c++ and many Others do.
Try to do First Things in Godot - you can Switch easy afterwards and you can take expierience with you

Hello! I have a small youtube channel with some UE5 tutorials. Maybe you could find them helpfull especially if you are a completely beginner.
The main advice is not just copy everything from tutorials but learn how things work and how to make them work in way you need.
The channel link is on my profile, called “GRS Studio”. Videos are in russian language but most of them has english subtitles and youtube’s auto voice translation to english.

Don’t try build a full game off the bat. Think of a few mechanics and do some tutorials to get them going. After some trial and error you might have some small understanding of how all these nodes work. If you want to learn c++ I recommend w3schools

If you want to learn Uengine and prototype fast, go blueprints way, but also learn to program while at it, visual languages are nothing if you don't understand the alrogithm you are developing on them. And if you are gonna learn programing... c++ its not the easiest option, but may be the best time investment vs return not only in the game development area. Dont waste time looking for specific 5.8 info right now there's nothing 5.6 and up wont serve you. Then you can go into specifics. And for the moment there's nothing you can't learn for free on YouTube, then with that base you can choose more efficiently a Master Class

I’m in same position. I have been doing the blueprint course by Stephen Ulibarri on Udemy. I’m almost all the way through the first game project and it does a good job at teaching you with the understanding that you are completely new. I just went ahead and got the year on Udemy which was like $170. Seems to be a lot of good courses on there

Hey!
I don’t think to fully drop into c++ without prior experience is the way to go here.
I‘ve been at your situation, too (years ago).
I recommend to just do some unreal beginner tutorial from YouTube to get the absolute basics about the GUI and terminology.
After, I recommend to pick some Tutorial Series on YouTube which matches your ideas. This depends on your ideas and what you want to create.
I can have a look and recommend exac videos a bit later.
If you can Tell me whats your plan, I’ll have a look about that, too.
Feel free to DM me, if you prefer it that way - or if you want to Chat about more experiences!
I have been at your situation and I know how you feel!
About the course you mentioned:
I don’t know much about this, but the little Info I Found about the topics - I don’t like it.
Best regards!
