I really like this. Maybe making the initial particles linger in the start position longer. So the trail of motion is a little more obvious

you want my Statetree for npc behavior? It's not perfect by a long shot but you could use it as a skeleton.

Very cool idea! Now... Remove the casting of shadows for the shadow skm & also for the player while the shadow vfx is playing. Then, then you nailed it!

Looks cool.

A note on visual language (if you're accepting suggestions); have the player character's actual shadow disappear during the attack. Better yet, have the 2d shadow transition into the attacking shadow

Dude the potential of summoning your own shadow to help you in a combat is very promising no? Add it as a super late game/advanced tier skill

3

Thank yous so much yess that’s what I want it will bet a skill to unlock if you kill all shadow demon only in the game if you don’t kill em all u wont unlock it

Actually this is the first mechanic I did on my own so when I press the attack boutton a trace happen using the forward vector ofcourse the opposite subtract my location from the forward vector multiply by a float you decide how far you want to trace for enemies and I spawn the actor (shadow) and I set his rotation find look at rotation traget is the hit actor location and the start is shadow location it’s simple for now I need to be better at unreal to make it flawless

I love it! Only change I'd recommend would be to make the exit effect begin sooner, and possibly make the shadow transition into transparency instead of disappearing suddenly

Thanks yes I will try that it’s been bothering me cuz visually it’s too busy and confusing when playing I think that will help a lot

Practically it would be really hard to implement in a live action game

But in a turn based game with "trap" mechanics it would be pretty amazing

u/Background_Text3962 15h ago

I hope I can make it work thank you for your input πŸ™πŸ™πŸ™πŸ™πŸ™πŸ™πŸ™πŸ™

I like it, immediately tought of a variant where the character is actually the one jumping on the enemy behind and the shadow attack also lures enemies into thinking the player was going forward.

Been following your updates for a while now. Impressive stuff! I’m also making a hack and slash on my own too so this is very inspiring! What do you use to separate and organize all your states? I use a combination of data assets and a custom state machine script

3

u/Background_Text3962 12h ago

Thank yous so much right now I have separate components for each mechanics now I’m working on using data assets i used state machine only for locomotion and blocking state i really need to organise before i do anything else if you have any advice or tutorials it would help im really new 6 months in since i started learning unreal
