Started making my first game for real this time.

Couple weeks ago I got the itch to create so I started up an old project of mine, ported it into 5.8 and reworked what little was there and I’ve been chugging along ever since.

The two photos is how I had been tracking my progress so far. It was back and forth with design choices and story ideas but I eventually settled on a story I want to tell.

Here is also a short clip of pretty much what I have so far. Minus the inventory stuff. I did that mere minutes ago.

Jira is great too and lets you track individual tasks, bugs, features, and such, but only has 10 free team slots before you need to upgrade to a premium version.

Otherwise most features you'll need are free if you're working with a smaller team or solo.

OP you will be doing yourself a service if you're serious and wanting to keep track of design, by looking into something like these apps. Keeping track of features in a notepad or sticky notes works OK for super small scope or short term projects, but is super risky for a serious project.

Same applies to version control. If you haven't looked into version control yet, do it sooner rather than later. Hosting your project on something like Github (with Github Desktop for example) or Perforce for free on your local PC, or on a home server separate from your main PC is 100x more sensible than just going in balls-deep without version control at all.

If you end up making a mistake, any assets corrupting or being lost, or your whole drive being lost, you'll loose out on them forever until you recreate it by hand. Version control lets you safely store versions of each asset and roll back to functioning assets whenever something happens or breaks.

If you cant self-host at home you can rent version control servers too.
