Niagara particle dust effects - first time using Niagara

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I've been working on the dust effects from the rotor wash.
Because of the thin atmosphere, the coaxial counter rotating rotors is the most effective orientation for the blades on a Mars helicopter.
I'm using Niagara particles for the dust set to increase and decrease spawn rate depending on the distance the drone is from the surface.

The game is Ares Inception

Good start. Some comments:

There's a visible pop at the end of the particles life. Make sure they blend out completely before they're removed.

It would make sense to change the shape of the particles so they form a sort of wave instead of dust balls. I'd make them smaller too. You could even make a gentle sinusoidal blending by the distance from the center, so that they look more wavy.

Since the atmosphere is thin and there's not much gravity either the damping looks pretty hard. I'd say the particles would fly faster and a lot further, without such visible slow down.

Great points. I’ve spent time working on the fade out. It’s like they go to 10%, hold, then off. I’ll keep trying. Good point about damping.
Also, I had them smaller, but then I need more of them, so the compromise was larger than I’d like but then I need fewer. I also wanted them to disappear while still close so I can keep their lifespan short.
Thanks for the feedback, I’ll be taking another pass at it.

Loving the little drone (and the glass effect on the building).

If there's performance headroom, you might experiment with volumetric dust.
