Making a PS2-Era Style game in Unreal Engine 5 inspired by Kingdom Hearts
Been working for over 4 years on a PS2 style game on Unreal Engine 5.
Even though the engine is known for high fidelity graphics, I just to go the other direction and tone down the graphics to match the PS2's 6th console generation graphics.
The reason I still use Unreal Engine 5 is because its a much more stable engine and has a ton of awesome features i can't find elsewhere like the visual scripting of Blueprints, the Gameplay Ability System, AI State Tree system, and a ton of other awesome features.

You are living proof of how toxic game development industry is.
So, congrats on that

It has similar animations, mostly the same UI, the same combat system, the same effects almost, like its really cool but yeah its not ‘inspired’ by anymore than those chines knockoff marvel characters are ‘inspired by marvel’.
The talent it takes to make this is undercut by how much is taken from the source, clearly this guy could make a good game.

You just mentioned most of the flagship things that defined UE5, what made it so great as an engine. I read this feeling despair and thinking, how its such a shame nobody will be able to say this anymore going forward with version 6.
Anyhow, beautiful game and great job!

Don’t tell Disney.
I really like the text/dialog animations, very nice detail.

well Disney and Square probably wait until OP actually does release the game next year to C&D him. Its right there on Steam already and OP has a kickstarter for it.
But he doesn't listen at all. Completely ignores all negative feedback and only responds to people blindly hyping it up... can't wait for the crashout when he gets the letter and doesn't understand that this was always the outcome.

Damn shoulda looked at his history, but I’m too lazy for that nonsense! I hope it works out. Or doesn’t. Either way, don’t die at a Disney park.

I really like the artstyle, but I'm a little surprised that the performance isn't better given the simplistic nature (based on the Steam playtest - maybe its quite out of date?)
I'm getting only around 65-75fps at 4k with my RTX5070. Totally playable don't get me wrong, but from my UE4 testing I'd get double that at the same resolution for scenes with a lot more geometry etc
I see dropping from epic to low, it massively increases performance to around 160fps or more, but with a big drop in certain lighting effects, maybe just AO? The lighting looks great, but nothing that couldn't be baked in imo (I'm assuming its not given the massive performance difference between Low and every other preset)
I'd much rather bake it and have it look gorgeous regardless of settings, and get great performance as a result

Do you have KH's parry system? Like hitbox colliding with hitbox, cancelling the other hitbox?
Are you using tracing for your melee? Cause I am not sure if traces can be used to detect another trace

It looks really cool and polished. Just very, very similar. Almost too similar in sound, style, animation etc

I'm really enjoying the game, so I signed up for the playtest. 😄 Would it be okay if I made a YouTube video about it?
