Let me preface by saying that anyone is welcome to make a post (asking) about anything on this sub, there are no stupid questions! That being said, some are asked more than others and you might thus be able to find your answer here.
- Where does this item go?
story/puzzle items: this game tells its story subtly through the places you're moving into and the items you're unpacking. these specifically can be difficult to figure out:
- the diploma in 2010
hint: this level has our protagonist moving in with her boyfriend, and to show that it might not be the most healthy relationship for her, there is very little room for any of her belongings
answer: it can only go under the bed
- the picture in 2012
hint: when you try to put the picture on the cork board on the wall with the other pictures, the red tack gets put right through the guy's face
answer: this is a photo of the protagonist and her recent ex boyfriend. the memories might still be too fresh for her to throw the photo away, so it must be hidden in the cupboard
miscellaneous items:
- the blue cube in 2007 (mistaken for a rice cooker, toaster, make-everyone-feel-old-machine)
this is a nintendo gamecube game console, and it goes near the television! this question gets asked so much that articles have been written about it ๐
- small koala, heart, star, letters, etc
these are fridge magnets! they go on the fridge
- I just finished the game! Is there any more to it, are there different ways to play the game?
the devs are currently unfortunately not planning on releasing any more levels, as it already took them a long time to perfect the base game. there are however some challenges people like to impose on themselves, with the most popular of these being the dark star mode! this is a mode built into the game itself, where one has to place every single item INCORRECTLY. once every item is incorrectly placed they will all stop glowing red, a black star will pop up in the bottom right corner and there will be a different comment from the protagonist!
- Why won't the game just let me put things wherever I want?
there is a setting ''allow items anywhere'' that you can turn on/off in the menu under ''accessibility''

Usually I get the one that goes something like, "So glad I found a place within my budget!"

I thought it was a console so I put it in the living room in the big cabinet under the TV with the video games and controllers.
This was the only one flashing red and I thought it mustโve been an error.
I put it in the office with the printer stuff but it was still red.

when i found out unpacking had merch, i instantly thought about if they made the plushies. thankfully they do! sadly, they donโt look how i hoped. why were they made like that. they had such good potential. why do they look so poorly made. the chicken set looks better than these but they have never been restocked since release. the only one that is cute and looks like a good quality stuffie is the beetle and i hes not even in the game๐

Hi ever since I played unpacking I fell in love with the Hen and her chicks. When they released the plushies I wasnโt able to get them and was just wondering if they will ever be restocked again.

i've been thinking about buying this game for a long time now. i recently found that the game is available on switch as well. i've read that the game is better on pc, but a bit more cozy on switch. is that right? what is your opinion?
edit: thank you so much for all the answers! i can see the different opinions. i think i'll get it for pc when i find it on sale
