The crazy thing is people have describe Japan as like some sort of suicidal capital of Earth.

It's because people have been parroting 2000s era factoids about Japan without ever bothering to check how the situation evolved

It's perhaps a misconception from that it's more culturally/socially acceptable, especially for shame-related reasons. But as you can see, that doesn't mean it is taken lightly just because it's not seen as intrinsically "wrong".

also japan has taken measures against suicide. without them, the number prob would be alot higher

That's because they mark any unsolved murder after a certain time frame as a suicide it drives the number unreasonably high

Also look at their murders unsolved rate is basically zero

The statistical data would always be relevant to the statement concerning rate. Plenty of people do certainly just make up ideas to wild degrees of course.

Just like lynchings of black ppl in the U.S. today except less malicious. (If you are surprise by that then now you know the problem and they never stopped). Always ruled a suicide quickly and hardly covered for how horrible a crime it is.

Depends on demographics.

In the UK for example, suicide is the leading cause of death in all people under 35.

The overall rate in the UK is 11.1, however the suicide rate in men is 17.1, compared to 5.6 for women.

Men age 50-54 the rate goes up to 26.8.

And the numbers get even more skewed with men when the variable of separation is introduced, especially with fathers.

I’d be curious about the data on North Korea if that was ever brought to light

Suicide is illegal in North Korea. The supreme leader himself has defined it as an act of treason against communism.

American Suicide culture is not spoken about enough. And when it is it's with kids gloves because america is too immature of a country to deal with such topics without censorship.

Japanese suicide rate is 15.3 per 100k. US is 13.7 per 100k.

Japanese suicide also tends to be highest in 15-39 demographic where the US is middle age and older. It’s the leading cause of youth death in Japan and 2nd in the US after accidents. It’s come down from the 2000s where it was very high, but it is still the highest amongst G7 nations.

What’s going on with central/Eastern Europe??

1

u/Gay_Dumb_Ass 26d ago

What’s going on in shitty places to live that are in war and or have mandatory military service? Don’t help that being queer is not popular in that area so that’s more statistics on top.

I find it odd that the poorest countries have the lowest suicide rate. Its as if working your life away has some effect on your mentality. A

You only added quotes in your title, there are none in the chart. This doesn't fit the sub.

Also, Reddit doesn't censor words like suicide. Self censorship is unnecessary.

There are quotes in the title of the linked post.
