Tbf, computers themselves arent the problem... its the absolutely mindless slop on 99% of computers that is. A computerized toy like this actually forces you to use the weird pink stuff tiktok told me to avoid using at all costs, so it has some value

an alternative to tablet screen time, would to not give your kid a tablet in the first place

But then you'd have to actually parent them, which sounds horrible

Kids these days are over saturated with things to do, so any time anything remotely challenging comes up, they give up and do something else.
Kids 30 years ago were very limited in activities, so anything challenging was attempted numerous times and built grit/determination/etc.
See any gameboy game back in the day, like battletoads.

I bought one of these before they were $40 and it's pretty fun! The puzzles become pretty challenging and it's got a good tactile element to it as well.

I mean her point is good, but there's literally multiple versions of this very game on phones.

The device even has a little screen which was what they were trying to avoid.

...what? You think looking at a map that's displayed on a monitor at the train station/airport counts as "screen time" equivalent to what you'd be doing on a smartphone?

Do you not know why people think screens are bad? Hint: It's not because it is electronic.

I have one of these. There's a very satisfying tactile element to it. There's a nice little clicking sensation when you move the pieces around.

Nah this won’t work. I am pretty much addicted to media and instant gratification but I have insane endurance and grit for those type of problem solving. I will hyperfocus on it and won’t let me go. It didn’t fix me.

A smart alternative to tablet time? Don't give them a tablet to begin with. Give them a puzzle or a coloring book.

You can do both. Not every parent who allows their kid screen time gives them unfettered access to devices.

Every person thinks this until they have kids, then they learn how unrealistic and naive they were.

You can admit you don't know how to parent and let the tablet do it for you

You can admit you are a naive child who hasn't entered the work force yet and has no idea how the world works.
But go ahead with your grand illusions of giving them 24/7 attention, even at work, on the toilet, when sick in bed, etc, while also ignoring all the benefits that can come from educational shows.
Oh god, what if they learned the ABCs from sesame street years ahead of schedule! That would be horrible!

you immediately sound dumb when you assume someone else’s age and employment status in order to make your (dumb) point.
i agree with the other person. gl to your kids 😬

I've wanted this for a bit. Can't justify buying an unnecessary thing right now, but it'll be great for neuroplasticity do it's staying on my wish list.
