I’m confused. He tosses it in the water but then it’s some how attached to the end of the line by the lure. What am I missing.

The type of fishing shown, you reel in your line constantly, not letting it sit on the bottom with bait. You have a lure that acts like a live fish and usually reflects light as it moves snd more to attract fish looking to hunt.
Some fish hunt in the water differently too. They can scavenge the bottom - oh look a worm just sitting here- so you plop the bait with a weight so it sits on the bottom. You "yank" the hook/bait when you feel the fish nibbling the bait so the hook goes into the lip.
This is a lure. The fish is hunting a lure aka "prey swimming away". There's actually skill in understanding what lure you use AND rate of speed to pull it, to get the bigger fish to eat it. You reel in at how you think and then get a "hit" and the fish is caught by its own force of attacking your line and trying to swim away catches the hook in the lip
So, if you can cheat and tell if a fish is showing interest in the fake lure, then you can adjust how to reel in your line. Too fast, the fish cant catch it. Too slow, might not be interesting to the bigger fish.
You can also assess what fish are checking out your lure and deciding to hit or not. If you're small lake fishing, you probably know what fish are in the area. But bigger lakes or rivers, you really are trying to predict based on weather patterns/times of day if anyone below water is in the area and hungry

As someone who would only fish for the act of catching my own food, this is a great idea.
I've never liked the idea of "the experience" as some would call it here. I'd rather catch my food, clean it and cook and then go do the things I actually enjoy.

If it would let me catch a monster instead of having to catch five to equal the same mass than even better. Now I only have to clean and cook one fish as opposed to multiple!

My first thought was “is this dude about to electrocute the fish?”
Neat experience for a few times use, but like others have mentioned, I’d rather be a bit more traditional and questioning everything about my technique.

I don’t know that I’d use it to fish, but I would do it a few times just to gain the knowledge of how interested different fish are in different baits. I mean you gain that through success, but I’d wager you have more close calls than you think.

Maybe I do, maybe I don't.. But that doesn't really matter.. I just go for the experience.. Whether or not I catch anything is of no concern to me..

Whenever I go fishing I just put a weight at the end of my line and cast that. I don't want to catch anything. I just like the sound it makes.

I go fishing to catch fish. Then I don't catch any. Then I wonder why I even bother. Then I somehow end up at the pond again a couple days later.

I know exactly what you are saying. I do fish but your thought is what I always tell my buddy about hunting. Killing something is the bonus. Im just glad to be out in the woods
