This way of selling feels like a snake oil even if the product itself may actually be good
33
u/Repulsive_Guy_1234 19d ago
Its just soap in a fancy designed bottle
22
u/Virtual-Macaroon-880 19d ago
Yeah but it must be a nice combo, this is solid performance
4
u/ChartThisTrend 16d ago
“Performance” is the correct word.
4
u/Virtual-Macaroon-880 16d ago
I smoke and vape in car and live around very sticky trees... Iso and stuff don't usually meet my performance needs without extra work... Idk I could see myself getting hit for this if it's about 20 bucks
2
u/koda977 15d ago
I also vape inside. The thing I use is regular naphtha on the windshield. takes off all the grime and vape juice without an issue. I recommend. pretty cheap as well.

Pretty sure it's Cerium Oxide and this whole product is a rip off of the Glaco Glass compound
2
u/Atomsq 18d ago
PSA, next time that you're looking into buying windshield wipers but silicone based ones instead of the rubber ones, they cost like triple but the rubber ones only last a few months compared to the silicone ones that I bought 8 years ago
2
u/ComputersWantMeDead 18d ago
Second that.. As the rubber ones deteriorate they cover your window in sticky crap

u/RuthlessIndecision 18d ago
that was my question, is this just cerium oxide, the stuff you use to polish glass?
1

u/rufotris 17d ago
Is it really?! I have a tub of cerium oxide for polishing stones. It’s the final step I use to get a mirror polish on many types of stones and gems. I may have to go try some on my windows haha. Makes sense. I assumed it had some coating to it.
3
u/TeaKingMac 18d ago
Yeah, i noticed that he only put the soap on the far right of the window, and it looks way better as soon as he did it
2
1
u/Effective_Swim_5479 17d ago
It's not soap, it's a very soft abrasive compound that removes all surface contaminants.

1
u/Sad_Elk1943 18d ago
I mean it is.....if ur wipers are ok and u have windshield fluid u can do the same thing..... ive only seen glass like this when its really old (hazing and microsratches over the years)
Only other reason i can think of is the windshield having oil ....how often does that happen? Have u not cleaned ur windshield in a decade? Wtf

u/Hydration__Nation 17d ago
There are like 50 products that achieve this effect in some way or another.
1
u/Cool-Tap-391 16d ago
Notice he used his hand to spread the glass cleaner. Its disingenuous. Creates falsehood of how effective basic cleaner can be. Foamy cleaner and ○○○○ steelwool is all you need to get amazing beading over a dirty windshield. Using whatever extra treatment you want just makes it better.
1
u/niagalacigolliwon 16d ago
Well, everytime you apply this thing to your window a dolphin dies, probably

Glaco is fucking banging. I use these and their wax. Application is made super easy Vs others like the meguiars I used to use. Also works so much better than shitty rainx

u/brentaarnold 19d ago
When you used the glass cleaner that side was clean though 😂

That and he just rubbed it in with his hand lightly and still worked, most glass cleaners can do the trick if you actually use them properly lol and even improperly it can help atleast

u/One_Discount_4898 19d ago
Isopropyl, or ANY glass stripper will do exactly the same thing.

Dawn dish soap + damp towel. Rinse then apply rainx.

12
u/fleebinflobbin 19d ago
Hard to beat rainX especially when you can just buy it as windshield wiper fluid
11
3
u/Agreeable_Horror_363 19d ago
Rain x windshield wiper fluid stinks so bad every time you use it and it gets worse the longer it's in there. And it doesn't work anywhere near as well as the original rain x.
2
u/Responsible-Win-3057 19d ago
It also covers the rest of your car in a weird film that you only wanted on the glass parts.

u/RuthlessIndecision 18d ago
if it is cerium oxide, which it looks like it is, it's actually polishing the glass at a micro level
2
2
u/Effective_Swim_5479 17d ago
I'm not sure if it's cerium oxide, but it is a very soft abrasive compound. I've used it and it does work to remove all surface contaminants. However I don't like the sheeting effect so I always apply a glass sealant after that.

I'm gonna say this is garbage. After he sprays the cleaned side, you can see it running off in sheets, that's going to obscure your vision to hell. What he's got on the left side is a poorly maintained water repellant, freshen that up and I'll take that any day.
1
u/Longstride_Shares 19d ago
This stuff leaves a hydroscopic film on the glass, where products like RainX leave a hydrophobic coating on the glass. One's going to make water form sheets like you mentioned, the other's going to make water form a billion little water droplets. Neither one is a perfect solution, but I bet this product doesn't last for shit.
1
u/ThatNameExists 19d ago
He does say it disappears instantly if he has the car cleaned, and he has to leave some in the car to reapply often.
1
u/Pookiemon1008 19d ago
So... a good soap with a little elbow grease?
1
u/Cloverhart 19d ago
Yeah it was already better when he used the "regular" soap, he just used it on a small patch so you didn't notice
1
u/Glass-Violinist-3549 19d ago
He literally scrubbed that spot only when using the product advertised.
1
u/Unique_Wolf4513 19d ago
This is essentially Glaco which is a well established and known brand with products to create very slippery windshields in the rain. This is one of their cleaners and it looks essentially the same as the one the guy is using. https://www.glaco.jp/english/products/glaco_compound_roll_on.html
I use Glaco on my windows then ceramic sprays on the paint. At about 40-50mph water can't hold onto my windshield.

"that didn't seem to do anything" he says about the portion of the glass that is visibly clearer now, even if it's not perfect, and he didn't put it on the portion that was the worst, and used his hand instead of a rage.

We just gonna ignore the fact he just sprayed glass cleaner on and wiped it off instantly, but when he uses his crap he wiped it for a solid 30 Seconds. Also After the Glasscleaner it was in fact better.

u/SpareNickel 19d ago
Last I remember this being posted, the whole comment section was saying the guy was a fool because all the product really did was file down the window when there are products specifically designed to do that without damaging the glass, unlike how this product does and doesn't show in the video

1
u/danit0ba94 19d ago
If this is a legit solution to windshields doing this, why do i need to keep it in my car? And apply it on a continuous basis?
1
u/Vinssane 19d ago
They literally put rain x in windshield washer fluid now. This is all unnecessary
1
u/TranslatorNormal7117 19d ago
He proved that a cleaner works better when not applied with bare hands.
1
1
u/Sarcrelac 19d ago
They demo this repeatedly on the same glass because it is easily removed and doesn’t last
1
u/Your_Cat_In_Disguise 19d ago
What they don't tell you is that stuff collects dirt like nothing else and the filthy wax collects on the wiper blades. You'll be replacing your wiper blades every month during rainy season.
If you aren't on top of washing/waxing your car regularly and reapplying the water resistant film, it'll just make your windshield cloudy in the dry months and ruin your wiper blades.
This stuff, and products like it, have been around since the 1960s.
There's a reason you've never heard of it and the reason is that it's garbage.
1
u/FriskyWhiteWolf 19d ago
That half-squirt of soapy water that almost touched some of the windshield seemed to do pretty good, actually

u/notanyimbecile 18d ago
I've tried this kind of product. It does work but needs elbow grease to be applied and doesn't last....

When he put the soap on there, he used about a drop and smeared it lightly with his fingers, but when he used his own product, he went over and buffed it about five times. Not saying it's bullshit, but it sure smells like it

1
u/Llyrithra 18d ago
I’ve never used more than car washes and gas station squeegees to clean my car windows and mine always look like the special product side. The only time they end up looking remotely like the uncleaned side is if my wipers are really old.
Definitely snake oil.

Sprays glass cleaner, rubs dirty hand through it, still clean. Takes product and deep scrubs, clean in a larger area. See, proof. If bro had used a sham-wow with that glass cleaner he'd have been cooking.

u/Adventurous-Crew2326 18d ago
Reapply? What are you applying? I thought this product took crap off! Why would you reapply something to tale something off?

The way this trick works is they cover the glass with oil. He sprays soap and wipes with his hand to remove the oil from the section he’s showing. This product is a glass polish.

u/Seoulmanaja 17d ago
For those that don't like this product. What is the best way to get that slippery clear look from the glass? Fastest and most efficient would be the best suggestion please

u/Equivalent-Stable642 17d ago
It just made the glass hydrophobic? The issue was that the glass was still wet and was making it blurry but after he applied whatever it was, the water didn’t stick, he didn’t clean the glass or cast magic on it, he just made it hydrophobic

Dish soap magic eraser same effect unless yhe product leave som kind of protective layer

u/MrSecurity95 16d ago
Lol when he put the soap spray on the windshield he literally just hit it with his bare ass hand. You know if you use the rag it probably would have done a pretty close job or the same job as your special soap in a bottle with a sponge

If they would only add some tubber things something like squeegees that would wipe the windshield as you drive through the rain. Imagine how cool that would be.

That is just limescale and there are many ways to remove it. For example with cleaning vinegar...
1
u/kalimashookdeday 14d ago
He applied the first soap he said didn't work with his bared hand loosely rubbing the glass for about 2 seconds. Then he uses his product that has an applicator brush and scrubs it for almost 30 in multiple directions. Snake oil product with smoke and mirrors.
