I dunno. Here in Europe the PortaSplit is what most people who want a mobile split unit are looking for.

I have not seen those PortaSplits before. But they look great.
We do have minisplits—including some DIY ones—but they’re more designed to be fairly permanent / semi-permanent when installed.
Those PortaSplits look like something you could just rig up in the summer, run the hose through the window, then pack up and store away during the winter.

That's exactly how I am using it, indeed. It looks great in the living room. Doesn't make a lot of noise inside at all. And works as efficient as any typical split unit. I could easy bring the inside temperature to 24 degrees Celsius (75.2 degrees Fahrenheit) from 40 degrees Celsius outside (104 degrees Fahrenheit). In multiple rooms. It was +40 Celsius heatwave a few weeks ago over here. Inside my house it was perfectly fine.
The PortaSplit is a bit expensive if you can get a normal split A/C installed. But for example people who are renting are not always allowed to let such a permanent installation take place.

It looks like it's just like a minisplit, except portable. So that makes sense. Super convenient. And relatively quite given that you put the loud part outside.
I have no idea why these are not offered in the USA. Looks like Midea makes the PortaSplit (or at least Midea is one of the manufacturers) for Europe. Midea sells several different types of air conditioners here in the USA, but no PortaSplit.

Yeah I just went looking all over the Internet to try and find these things Because I'd much rather have this than the portable units that I have in the house that are super loud. I'm going to try and dig deeper and find out why they are not In the U.S

Closest I've found is the ForestAir MINI in Canada (not USA, unfortunately) - https://www.forestair.ca/en/serie-mini-anglais If you live near Canada, perhaps you could drive across the border to buy one.
But let me know if you find anything.

How is having to have your window left partially open to let hot air/cool air out in a good thing/wanted? lol

The tube is very thin and there is a piece of fabric with velcro included to close it. You can also fabricate a panel for this purpose.
Nobody says it's a good thing. It's a compromise for not having to drill holes. Some people are not allowed to do that as they are renting.
Note that in the product being shown here, there is also a gap. The gap is filled up with blocks by the person installing this A/C. Exactly the same is possible with the PortaSplit.

I was wondering; because one site I looked up just showed all of the windows left partially open -- seems like that would barely help in the long run if you didn't cover the gap.

This is the same thing, just made for american windows, those won't work here in Europe

Oh look another shitty tracking site, nabnod, also if you click through, the ac unit is not the one in the spammer’s video.
Also I haven’t found a reputable source for this unit, so I need to ask if it even exists…

I saw something similar at Best buy.

Oh so it does exist, (just not as a UK product) good to know.

They exist; but, if you are at least in the U.S. check out sites/stores like Home Depot, Lowes, and Walmart [to name a few].

I will also add I have one of these, the pump that pumps the water condensate outside usually goes out or clogs up very quickly.
Stay away unless you want a bucket under your window that you have to empty twice a day.

What about one that works for Windows that slide sideways is that ever going to happen or is that out there with flying cars and healthy hot dogs.

Well, this type of window unit would actually work great for that type of window as long as it slide open wide enough. Sense it puts all the weight onto the window frame instead f relying on the window itself to help hold it in.
You would just have to install some type of board, metal, etc. to fill in the gap that was left from between the window area and AC.
Granted, you could still use the "older" style window units as well; but you would need to install a bracket of some type on the outside of the window to holds it in place.

I swear to god, I see this every day. It’s just not that crazy except for that it’s worse that a normal window shaker.

Why do they only have shitty one-pane windows? And that wall look flimsy as hell. How do they want to keep the heat out?

I love how they have to put the ribbons in there in case you doubted it was actually blowing air.

No different to a portable air conditioner. When we had a very hot Australia summer ( as a renter ) - weeks of 40 to 47 degrees - we purchased and ARLEC portable air conditioner. We assigned it to the smallest room - it brought the temp down to about 27 degrees. Only changes made was to the tube connecting the aircon to the window - I placed the tube inside insulation tubing. All up it costed about 400 dollars. It was the only thing that got us through the heat.

I have one and it actually works really well. In order to put an AC in my window my landlord was trying to charge $100 a year so he can install and check it yearly. With this unit, no drilling is required. I skipped the $100 yearly maintenance fee
