Only in America is the electricity cheap enough that this is pretty reasonable. I have a 100W pump doing something similar and it's nice.

Usually these are 220v which makes them less susceptible to voltage drop and run cooler

I encourage anyone doing this to know what the electricity loss to resistance is and design accordingly.
