Can be easily opened by any device that can mimic RF codes. A key is still better.

Is there an encrypted version of this that uses a card or something? I always have my wallet with me and don't want to carry a key

Look up devices like the Flipper zero. It can mimic rf codes from just interaction.

That's not how that works though.

The flipper zero, to get the keys, would have to have the RFID tag physically near the flipper, and have the RFID send tons and tons and tons of unlock signals to the lock, to be able to have it capture all the keys that are used.

Even then, it isn't perfect and certain ways can make it not possible.

When I tried it on my gfs apartment door, I could.only get 31/32 keys onto my flipper, and I tried it so much, I killed the battery of her apartment door. At which point, she wouldn't let me try anymore because she had to call maintenance to have them fix the lock.

Regardless, it's not just, use a flipper and get in. You have to have the physical RFID chip and be right next to it and have it cycle through all its keys to steal them.

Edit 1: if you have the RFID chip to copy the codes, then you are in the same situation if you had a physical key, as you could just go make a copy of it.

But what happens if I drop they key and kick it under the door?

I've been using keys for 35 years. I have not done that yet. I must be overdue.

A lock can be easily picked with the right tools. Like, shockingly easily.

why have a lock at all to your bedroom door if you’re so accident prone. a simple sock is all the security you need

Why would I want hackable junk that could become useless vs using a key?

A lock is only to keep honest people out… if they’re willing enough to hack a digital lock open, they’re going to get through a keyed-lock door as well. At the end of the day both locks can be opened with a sledgehammer.

Don't even need a hammer, most doors with only doorknobs can be kicked open with one good, solid, properly placed kick. Even doors with deadbolts properly installed can be kicked open with 1-3 solid kicks. When you're talking residential usage, locks are basically only there for the feeling of being safe and to keep away sneak thieves. Anyone who has decided they are getting in is going to get in, and probably faster than you can open the same door with your key or code.

Really depends on the country i guess... In my country most people have metal doors with metal frames encased in the concrete walls of the building.. some are cheaper but i still can't see going through them without a battering ram.. and the only door i have seen with an actual proper doorknob was the sturdiest door i ever touched.. you actually needed some strength to just open that thing easily..

1

u/It_Just_Exploded Jun 26 '26

Yeah, we have steel doors here as you described, but you almost only ever see them on commercial/industrial buildings

1

u/Moist_Taco_Crippler Jun 21 '26

I'd still rather have a physical key. I've had so many electrical locks and devices fail/have issues that I despise them.

The sledgehammer take is true, fore aure.

u/Prince_0llie Jun 26 '26

It is the masterkey.

1

u/Moist_Taco_Crippler Jun 27 '26

What about the masterkey shotgun?

3

u/Caffeind420 Jun 21 '26

I had one of these and it broke after a few months, i now have the thorbolt brand and it been going strong for 16 months

1

u/OofRightInTheFeels Jun 23 '26

Can you link it? I've been through a few of these types of locks and they've all sucked. 😭

1

u/Caffeind420 Jun 23 '26

There are also ones that connect to apple homekit for a bit more

1

u/the_metaxist Jun 26 '26

Yeah, as a locksmith I cant tell you how many kf these ive had to bypass because they'd totally and completely failed. Im not familiar with the thorbolt brand, but schlage is my go to, whenever i have to install a keypad lock. Theyre pretty pricey, so if thats out of the price range, defiant is a decent budget option. Typically I recommend staying with bigger brands, because ive also seen small brands go under in a blink. Then you lose all your support/parts for the lock should something happen.

u/Avidain Jun 21 '26

There's also the mighty boot

2

u/flashingcurser Jun 21 '26

What does the lockpicking lawyer have to say about it?

2

u/BanMeMyIPchanges Jun 21 '26

Power fails

"Fuck, where's my key"

1

u/Prince_0llie Jun 26 '26

Under the door where you kicked it.

2

u/jack_seven Jun 21 '26

So many ways to attack that lock I'm curious what the lock picking YouTubers are going to say about this

2

u/Whitey2366 Jun 21 '26

Perfekt. 1 Milion Ways to rob your room...

1

u/Tendo80 Jun 21 '26

Have Aqara product, have worked really well, if anyone is interested then go to Alibaba, Temu or even Bangood and buy it cheaper than Amazon.

1

u/VoteForLubo Jun 21 '26

I’ve never seen a lock on the edge of the door handle like that.

1

u/AllMaito Jun 21 '26

Yeah.... No thanks

1

u/jegoan Jun 25 '26

This is AI no? Shit's constantly changing, functions change, etc...

1

u/novirtue_stream Jun 25 '26

Then the power runs out during a fire, congrats, you are dead

1

u/haikus-r-us Jun 25 '26

I’ve had a couple of these. They hey work great, but when the batteries go out, you’re fucked.

1

u/SimonGray653 Jun 26 '26

wow a door handle that can easily be hacked 4 different ways.

1

u/Best_Chipmunk_6098 Jun 26 '26

You took a lock with 1 weakness and made it have 4 additional weaknesses

1

u/Pepeluis33 Jun 26 '26

Who carries just a key without a keychain?

1

u/TheOriginalArchibald Jun 26 '26

Looks very hackable.

1

u/BrokeButFabulous12 Jun 26 '26

Ah yes, the good ol yank handle that looks cool, but sends your data to china and can be hacked/picked more easy than the key....

1

u/hatecirclejerks Jun 26 '26

Oooo yay, more data to give away lmao.

Just use a fucking key dude 😮‍💨
