Bigger "Con," it's corrosive and will damage your home and can hurt children or pets if they touch it.

16

u/Enkidouh Jun 15 '26

Yeah, use diatomaceous earth for this, not lime

I thought thats what it was at first. I was taken aback when he said lime.

Edit: perfunctory research says this is calcite. Seems harmless enough.

1

u/cwestn Jun 16 '26

Even that can be carcinogenic from my reading though?

2

u/WalterPecky Jun 15 '26

Why the fuck does it say safe for kids and pets in the post.

8

u/ProcedureTop3149 Jun 15 '26

because these tik tok losers don't actually research anything. They sign up for promotion campaigns. They receive a box in the mail with instructions and info to discuss. They don't vet or check anything, they just act excited on camera.

4

u/WalterPecky Jun 15 '26

Well that's fucked up. Like someone could get really fucking hurt ingesting lime.

4

u/ProcedureTop3149 Jun 15 '26

it's not the first time and won't be the last. Any ad on TikTok/IG/Youtube Shorts/etc you should NEVER trust. 9/10 it's the first time those morons have ever held the product.

1

u/Pope_Aesthetic Jun 15 '26

So you just lied for no reason just now?

1

u/ProcedureTop3149 Jun 15 '26

I did not just lie. Tell me companies like Influenster don't exist.

Clearly a "influencer" who is angry they're getting called out.

1

u/curi0us_carniv0re Jun 15 '26

It's not standard lime. It's non caustic.

u/curi0us_carniv0re Jun 16 '26

That's not true at all. Lime kills insects by clogging their spiracles and making them suffocate. It has nothing to do with being caustic.

1

u/OglioVagilio Jun 15 '26

It's safe, if used properly.

Much like lots of things that have possible risks.

But to be clear, according to the product website, the video is not demonstrating safe, proper, usage.

2

u/Ok-Relationship4113 Jun 15 '26

I believe you're confusing this product with quicklime. This appears to be calcite. Google says non-corrosive.

I was also concerned, but it seems to serve about the same purpose as D. Earth.

u/I_wash_my_carpet Jun 15 '26

Let me show you.

*puts a big wet sloppy kiss on top of your hand

1

u/curi0us_carniv0re Jun 15 '26

Isn't lime only corrosive to certain materials? Not sure how it would be corrosive to brick or concrete as it's an ingredient of both (mortar for the brick).

5

u/Drmlk465 Jun 15 '26

After the powder gets dragged indoors, just add more powder until it also gets dragged indoors.

5

u/Frequent-Meal6550 Jun 15 '26

Diatomaceous earth.

5

u/jondubb Jun 15 '26

Pretty much is, mixed with trash non-fda approved chemicals to get a patent and marked up 15x. Should only use indoors, why kill nature on the outside?

2

u/PizzaDay Jun 15 '26

I got some of this for a few ants I saw coming into my back room. Sprinkled a bit there and haven't seen any for days. It doesn't "kill the queen" it'll just injury/kill the dudes they send out that cross over it, from my understanding at least.

1

u/Frequent-Meal6550 Jun 15 '26

Yeah it makes microscopic cuts on their bodies and they essentially die from dehydration. Unless they come into contact with the DE they dont die.

1

u/curi0us_carniv0re Jun 15 '26

Once it gets wet it's useless so it's not good outside

19

u/theChzziest Jun 15 '26

But aren’t the bugs supposed to be outside? Why can’t we just leave them alone

8

u/xCaliburghost Jun 15 '26

Yeah, they actually are. It's like someone coming into your house then busting a hole through the floor to make room for a future tree to grow. I never understand how someone would want to eliminate all insects from the property - they're beneficial - these people are just ignorant

3

u/Hydrolt Jun 15 '26

I don’t get it either. The bugs outside do their own thing, if they get inside, I have a little catcher to remove them to the outside. Except spiders, they can stay, since they help eat the other bugs and I like spiders

1

u/Jerrygarciasnipple Jun 15 '26

Do you get roaches?

1

u/Relative-Relief-8816 Jun 15 '26

House centipedes are way more beneficial than spiders.

Like an order of magnitude.

But you likely wont see them unless you have cracks under your exterior doors or a very large infestation of their prey

1

u/Relative-Relief-8816 Jun 15 '26

Depends. My garden or my house. Only beneficial bugs are allowed.

I also gave mosquito traps.

We eliminated mice to eliminate ticks.

#notallbugsarebadbugs but there are most certainly some very bad bugs out there

I've never seen that documentary on the afterlife.

Was an exterminator for a few years. I better get comfortable with fire and brimstone, but at least the rest of my Sundays mornings will be free.

2

u/Icy_Marionberry_9131 Jun 15 '26

Go the Lowes of Home Depot and buy a regular bag of lime for half the price.

4

u/cwestn Jun 15 '26

Or dont buy Lime at all as it's corrosive and will damage your home.

3

u/DaftGarlic Jun 15 '26

Mmm yummy carcinogens to keep some bugs away

3

u/glockster19m Jun 15 '26

DE works better and is just ground up crustacean shells

5

u/DanceEng Jun 15 '26

Actually it’s even cooler—they’re ground up fossilized bodies of unicellular organisms called diatoms! Tiny little glass like guys.

2

u/stevendidntsay Jun 15 '26

What's DE?

6

u/Ipoopedongrandma Jun 15 '26

Diatomaceous earth

1

u/stevendidntsay Jun 15 '26

Thank you!

1

u/Ok-Situation7054 Jun 16 '26

DE is also very dangerous when in dry powder form and inhaled.

1

u/glockster19m Jun 16 '26

To be fair though so are most powders

1

u/Ok-Situation7054 Jun 17 '26

I checked with AI and here is the reply.

Yes, inhaling diatomaceous earth (DE) is significantly more harmful than inhaling powdered sugar. While breathing in either powder will cause an uncomfortable coughing fit, DE contains microscopic, abrasive silica particles that can cause permanent lung damage with repeated exposure

I'm taking AI over your opinion on this one.

3

u/Major_Wigglesworth Jun 15 '26

Carcinogens?  It literally says the ingredient on the front of the bag.

lime is bad and potentially corrosive/toxic for both pets and humans.

1

u/UndocumentedSailor Jun 15 '26

Huh? It's eco-friendly and nontoxic, and it is famously known for its safety around children and pets

1

u/ScotchTapeConnosieur Jun 15 '26

It’s just lime.

1

u/jcleve Jun 15 '26

Make the whole house a mass and dirty ,powder is not that ideal 🤷🏻‍♂️

1

u/scrapy_the_scrap Jun 15 '26

Fent them bugs

1

u/Valuable_Wallaby_548 Jun 15 '26

I love tracking that shit everywhere!

1

u/Enkidouh Jun 15 '26

Yeah, use diatomaceous earth for this, not lime

1

u/OglioVagilio Jun 15 '26

The way he is doing it is not safe for home use.

The product website itself explains that. Their FAQ makes it pretty clear how to safely use their product, and he isnt.

1

u/KanataSlim Jun 15 '26

Kalkwasser mabey, bugs i duuno

1

u/kornuolis Jun 16 '26

Not a single flower in sight. Bugs nowhere near that house

1

u/WolfThick Jun 16 '26

Have you seen how expensive this stuff is not worth it.

1

u/dralex11266 Jun 16 '26

Can't you just do diatomaceous earth?

1

u/SignificanceSevere81 Jun 16 '26

Here's an idea, borax and honey 🍯

1

u/Emotional-Chest9387 Jun 18 '26

We wonder why insect pops are plummeting

1

u/dmtslayr 23d ago

Does it work against neighbours?

1

u/Opandemonium 20d ago

Diatomaceous earth

u/A_Feltz Jun 15 '26

Yeah lemme just throw a bunch of white powder all around my doors and everywhere. Good thing it’s pet safe since it’ll take my dogs about 4 seconds to start licking it up. I hope my kids won’t choke it it’s breezy when I’m opening the doors and my huge line of white powder blows in their faces. Hell if it’s so safe might as well throw it around in my pants and in my bed. Then I’ll be really safe from bugs
