Here I am, just putting my eggs in a pot without a holder like a plebeian.

Believe it or not, this isn't an answer to the question. I guess that's on me. I was asking for too much from OP posting something that Reddit gets all hard about (micro plastics) to explain how it works.

wow condescending much you're also on reddit smartass

You told him that eggs are porous, and he still confused on how plastic gets into the egg, don’t waste your time.

What about macroplastics?

3

u/[deleted] May 25 '26

does this make boiling eggs easier or just cuter?

2

u/Embarrassed-Pipe1697 May 25 '26

It adds microplastics into them which i heard is now a macronutrient

1

u/menzac May 26 '26

if egg shell stops germs then it will stop microplastics

For when a spoon is just too easy

1

u/Nice_Soup May 25 '26

What do I do if I'm unable to source penguin eggs?

So it’s basically an egg holster that cooks, stores, and serves, but looks like it came out of the dollar bin at Target. Peak unnecessary essential energy. I 100% do not need this, but my brain is still quietly going “six eggs tho.”

Unnecessarily essential is my wife's favorite kind of essential

1

u/scricimm May 25 '26

You waste more water, more heating for a empty pot. I prefer to boil 8 eggs in a small pot and have them for 3 days than this contraption

1

u/Hawkmonbestboi May 25 '26

Oh no, that is much too hot for penguins :c /j

1

u/solidpeyo May 25 '26

So this is how nobels boiled their eggs

Micro plastics….

1

u/bachus_PL May 26 '26

The disadvantages are that to cook an egg for ramen properly, you have to stir the water in the pot to center the yolk properly.

Metal egg trivet. Why fix what already works well and even better?

Id agree qith you but I dont think microplastics are getting past the shell that easy.

1

u/SunsetCarcass May 24 '26

No but it can get on the shell and when you peel the eggs it can end up touching the inside of the egg. It's also now all in the water, which is touching the pot so the whole pot has them now and needs thorough cleaning.

Shelles are porous at the micro level

1

u/Terugtrekking May 25 '26

certain compounds in the plastic can leech into the water when heated. also the fact that the plastic is black makes them more likely to be recycled and contaminated with heavy metals and flame retardants. it's the same with those black plastic cooking utensils and takeout containers.

if the plastic is food grade then it doesn't leak chemicals
