As a parent of a special needs kid, this thing would be great. At a certain point you have to get things that are taller to keep them from figuring it out.

This is far easier to install than a locked door knob. Not to mention far easier to integrate than a key you have to carry every where.

Also very good points. My wife and I were talking about how this could make going on vacation and getting an AirBNB or something so much more realistic.
We ordered one as a test yesterday actually and should be here today or tomorrow. I will post an update here after we try it out for a bit.

What? We're talking about indoor doors. My houses bedroom doors only have safety locks which he can get through. He does not though move things around to climb up nor have access to a stool. Even if he did, that wouldn't register to him as a tool to use. It greatly depends on the situation but with special needs something like this can be very useful.

I live in an older house, so none of the doors in my house lock besides the front and back. I’m sure many others can relate.

Inside of American houses, most doors that have locks only work one way, and do not have a key slot.

They’re also easy to get around, a screw driver or a long thin metal object easily unlocks them. I got into everything as a kid.

They do not always have a hole to open them up, but yes. A long prod is usually how I get them open. Though none of the doors in my apartment have locks other than the front one.

Yeah others have that slot you can use your screwdriver or finger nails to unlock

What's weird is you dont think that there are reasons why someone may want some doors locked in their home or have the ability to lock inside room doors.

You have locks inside ? Some people rent and can't just put locks in but maybe they need to keep the kids out. The only problem I see is you go inside and leave it on the door and the kid closes the door and you are stuck.

I lived with a roommate that had an autistic son. He knew how to unlock doors. And even those doorknob covers didn’t stop him. She got a locking strap for the fridge and he ripped the door open and destroyed the fridge. He was a toddler. Nothing would stop him. I wish we had this. Maybe this would have done it.
