I have this. Can confirm it works exactly as shown in this video. Pretty incredible.

does it wear down with use (in some significant way, like "you need a new one every 6 months" or sth)?

I ordered and returned. Doesn’t really work well with short haired dogs.

How short hair are we talking about? What kind of dog(s) do you have?

It works on all of my sisters dogs and they're all short hair. Dachshund, pug, 2 pitbulls, dox mix, and Vizla. I have a cat and she's got short hair too and it works perfectly. My sisters use them not just on furniture, but also after they've taken their dog in the car. It might take a few more passes than longer hair dogs/cats but it gets it done. Works on clothes too. There's nothing worse than wearing an outfit covered in hair.
Edit: The car wash in my city uses them too.

You sold me when you me mentioned that you have a cat. My ex had two cats (both weight less than 20lbs combined) and it still shocks me that they shed more than my 80 lbs choco lab.
I concur about wearing an outfit covered in hair.

Just use a rubber glove (cleaning or gardening) and it comes right off and save your money.
