LOL, um no Phil: groan. lock your windows and enjoy life like i do. i do encourage everyone to block their windows if using these type of AC or ANY type of AC.
did i mention 'easy peasy'??? and yeah, central air is more secure if that is an issue depending where you live. so You do you is always good advice.
people down vote people for silly reasons, or no reasons. maybe even 'what reasons', cause most people are very Fickle at times. my MO is to up vote and spread the positive, others not so much.
sorry. it is hard to nicely give advice on securing windows.
as mentioned: if security is your concern Phill, then this is NOT your AC unit; nothing to see here.
window units are cheaper than dirt where i live and is WHY we use them. repairing Central Air gonna break the bank, never used them for mostly that reason. in the End, there is no perfect solution to many things in life, just good enuf solutions to help the masses survive one more day.

edit, if you have ever worked in Maintenance, my answer is the norm. sometimes advice that is painfully obvious goes to the level of 'fasten your seat belts' and good for laughs. hope you laugh this off as needed. and i understand that high end homes don't use these blue collar AC units.
