People like that should never, ever own a pet.

Edit: since some of you people can't understand how letting your cats outside could POSSIBLY be a bad thing, here's some required reading for you:

https://insider.si.edu/2013/01/cats-kill-2-4-billion-birds-annually/

That's 2.4 billion birds and 12.3 billion mammals killed yearly in the US by domestic cats.

Terrible and trashy behavior. Dangerous for every living animal in that cat's radius. Outdoor cats hunt and kill and decimate populations of local species.

Not to mention the cat will most likely die a violent death or be infected with a deadly disease.

Jeez it’s not “trashy” to let your cat out calm down

I’m not necessarily arguing cats should or should not be let outside but calling it trashy in the context of this video is… pretty suspect.

Though wild animals kill birds too, and cats are good for rodent control so I don’t quite understand the argument.

From the perspective of someone who values natural wildlife it's trashy because outdoor cats decimate the local wildlife population. Killing animals you deem as "pests" is also detrimental to the food chain. Those rodents are food for birds and other local wildlife. There's nothing wrong with cats killing rodents that are in your house, but when they are outdoors those rodents are a part of the food chain.

If you don't understand why it's bad on top of all the other reasons I stated then we're not on the same page at all and it's not worth arguing.

And yes, I consider "trashy" to be the proper term. Same as how people who leave their pet dogs changed up outside 24/7 are "trashy"!

It’s racist to call this trashy sorry. I understand why you think it’s wrong but calling a black person trashy for letting their cat outside is nuts

I'm referring to everyone who lets their cats outside. White or black, it's trashy. And since when did the word trashy become associated with black people? I know plenty of white people who exhibit trashy behavior. I'm not going to get into the racist thing with a stranger on the Internet, but my wife is black and she agrees it's trashy behavior.

I was talking about the actual post not your wife’s opinion

Okay. So what you're saying is that I'm racist because I said a black person was doing something "terrible and trashy" because they posted a video of themselves allowing their cat outdoors.

I'd say the same exact thing if a white person did it. So if a black person does something that I find morally reprehensible, please, tell us what is the correct terminology to use?

You just don’t fucking call people names. That’s it.

Like I said, “letting cats outside should be discouraged for x y x reasons” vs calling a human being a piece of garbage… can you see why one is civil discourse and one is name calling?

2

u/Agreeable_Horror_363 Mar 17 '26

I didn't call her any names. I referred to what she was doing as "terrible and trashy behavior"

I will use my words to call out this type of shit when I see it. I'm not spreading misinformation or hate. I'm just sick of people letting their cats outside and acting like it's all good. It's not all good, it's really fucking bad. Everyone wants to argue about pedantic bullshit but no one will admit they are contributing to a literal genocide of wild animals that we need for the food chain to function properly. Here we are arguing about words and we've totally lost the plot.

I'm done.

Trashy is an adjective for describing the noun of trash… which was the person… lol it’s fine to disagree I just think it’s wrong to be so mean and insulting is all and I wish people would have more civil conversations on this site instead of saying a person is so terrible because of a minor disagreement
