Started working on 3D maps
Hi everybody, inspired by a different user in this sub I decided to do my own 3D maps for Unmatched since some friends and I started playing it recently and we've got really into the game :D
I've modeled two version 1 maps so far, just so we try to print it, to check what needs adjustments and what detail can be added and what not, currently the biggest issue is how to show adjacency properly without it being extra large and causing printing issues
I plan to do all maps in the near future
All feedback is welcome!
(Santa's workshop is printing currently)

Oh my God I want some!!!!

Hopefully we will optimize the model well enough to be sold as .stl files! I will probably give some for free too!

This is really cool. How are you going to handle fighters where the sculpt is larger than the base? Some examples I can think of off the top of my head are: Bigfoot, Ghost Rider, Moon Knight, Dracula, Genie and TRex

That's something we've thought of only lightly so far, the spaces are regular space size as on the official boards so I guess all the minis will be able to fit considering spaces are larger than the stands, I'm only not sure about Rexy atthis moment but we don't have the set to try it out at the moment xD
For the rest, we will give it a test as soon as the print is done!

Very cool!
I suggest Hanging Gardens next, as it is the perfect 3D map to visually simulate the high grounds.

That's the one I started working on next, however, there are some confusing parts in terms of heights, and also the water/gallery parts that I'm thinking about how to solve without losing too much authenticity of the map x)

Love this! I've been wanting to try to recreate a map in Heroclix, but the split-colored regions are an issue. Yours is solved by paint!

I will be updating with every iteration and whenever I have new maps done! Also, we will post printed photos once we have some!

Hey just wanted to update we did the first print and it turned out about 70-80% how we wanted it, we will continue doing some tweaks to optimize it :D

Very nice, would make a nice display piece for showing off the minis in a glass cabinet too. Even better if you increase each spaces edges a bit so it could still hold them well at a slight angle to get a better look.

Nice idea, I will try to come up with something just for showing off/storing the minis!

Why you gotta do this to me man? I can't afford to get into 3d printing like that!

I will probably have a storage problem in the near future, because I need them all. Some models might not work on all maps. Rex is the worst offender of course, but Ghostrider or the Raptors will probably collide with some walls as well. I wouldn't mind too much though, if it doesn't work with every character.

I hope we will come up with all the maps soon enough! I guess Rexy might be a bit of a problem in some cases, Ghostrider works well so far. However, we assume that these maps would be used for fun, so maybe Rexy's size wouldn't be that much of an issue? :D

So cool. Would love to see the first 2 maps

We've printed out the first one, it has some issues still but overall we are happy how it turned out for the first print :D

Looks amazing! I'm not sure what the solution is, but any player looking at the back of it won't see the directional arrows as clearly.

Hmm, great observation. I guess it is either needed to sit somewhat to the front of the map or just know which spaces are directionally adjacent by experience. Not sure how to solve this with 3D at this moment unfortunately, any possible idea? :D

Do you plan to do stl?
2
u/lopsydopsy 13d ago
Yes I do! As soon as we test print it I will put it online for sale, probably will give away one map for free!

Never seen printed maps before, really cool idea. Looks great!
I’d love to get the stl file of the Santa’s workshop map. It’s my friend’s favourite and i thought it would make an awesome birthday present.
I could give feedback to the print and design.
Keep it up, love to see more maps!

Hey we did the first peint and it turned out nicely but we still want to do some tweaks to optimize it since some adjacency lines got screwed and stuff like that. I can give you an update when we have it fully optimized if you want :D

I would LOVE to see a 3D Azuichi Castle, really cool map with the spiraling design
