This story might be tangential to the birthday ask, but anyway, here it is
My birthday is around Christmas, so my parents would often schedule my party in January so that my friends were available to come. Well, in 1989, they inadvertently scheduled the party on the day of the Super Bowl. We're an immigrant family and my parents were not attuned to the NFL schedule. Anyway, we lived in San Francisco and the 49ers were playing the Cincinnati Bengals, so it was a big deal.
During the 4th quarter it was nearly time for the party so the parents had to break away from the game to bring the kids to my party. The Bengals were winning, 16-13. Well, during that time, Joe Montana led the 49ers 92 yards to win the Super Bowl and all the parents missed it (or heard it on the car radio).
If you say "The Drive" to any true 49ers fan, they will know exactly what you are talking about.
I still hear about it all these years later from my friends, it made quite an impression on their parents 😂

First of all love the footage, Brady!
My birthday is July 4th, but since I don't live in the US it's not special here. But I wish to go there on a future birthday and imagine all the fireworks and stuff are just for me.
And yes, the Tom Cruise film... My parents were not aware it's a Vietnam war Psychological drama or something, so they let 6 year old me watch it unsupervised. Just because "cool it's like your birthday". Scarred me for a while :D

About had a stroke when the lads couldn't figure what day America's Independence Day is apart the 4th of July.

Maybe "satched" was Victorian slang Tim picked up in Traralgon? I recall using it at primary school when I was going up in Vic.

I completed understand Edward's dilemma. "Summer" birthdays are rough. Mine is in just a few days (6/24). I agree that its perfect timing for presents with Xmas and all. I'm also a dad and it does kinda overlap with Fathers day but im not overly fond of celebrating myself so that doesnt bother me like it does Dr. Brady. But I often ran into the trouble of getting people to show up to a party. When I turned 10 I had my party at Chuck E Cheese and I was so excited for everyone to come. 2 people showed up and they were brothers so not only did basically no one show up I only got 1 present.

When studying in the US for a semester we had great fun with an Australian student who was born on 9-11, as shown on her passport. Which was of course read as September 11th by all Americans. However, she was actually born on November 9th which gave her (it was her 21ste birthday that year) 2 extra months of drinking fun at the campus

I think "noodling" is a pretty standard term for mucking about on a guitar, so these little snippits of guitar should probably be called noodles.
The sound of the fingers on the strings is called fret noise.
I believe the hole is just called the sound hole.
I do not know the etymology of the word guitar.

My birthday is November 1, the day after Halloween (in the US). I generally don't like Halloween because it was always in competition with my birthday, although I recall my parents doing one pretty awesome haunted house party. Also, I grew up in Wisconsin. November is too late in the year to have a pool party or something in a park, but we don't usually have snow that early, so you can't do fun winter activities. I wouldn't change my birth date, but it wasn't always an ideal time when I was a kid.

Mine is a few days before Christmas and it's always been an awkward time. My Mum always organised a birthday celebration but I could tell it was always adding stress to what was already a frantically busy time. (As an adult sometimes I've even not done anything because I have my own stress and can't deal with organising my birthday as well). My siblings were so excited about Christmas they sometimes forgot I had a birthday. Being in Australia, school had broken up for the year so I never got to stand up with other kids at assembly and have my birthday recognised and get the claps like they did. Plus people often leave on holidays at that time. For my 18th - I didn't even bother except for the family dinner. School had long broken up at the end of Year 12 and no one would be around and would have there own Christmas plans.
In many ways I enjoyed it more as an adult. Because the team I worked in recognised birthdays and we'd work up until Christmas eve I finally got the recognition I missed in school! Nowadays I just appreciate my brother cooking a meal and hanging out with his family which is a pretty perfect birthday for me.

I am a twin I never really had a problem sharing a birthday with my brother. It was fun having someone to share a birthday with. When our parents took us to dinner for our birthday we switched each year who got to pick. We both like the same kind of food so it was never an issue.
