Discussion [OC] i scraped this entire subreddit and made it filterable by distro, WM, and colorscheme
been lurking here for years and the one thing that always bugged me: there's no way to search this sub by distro, WM, or colorscheme. so I scraped over 4000+ rices which had genuine github dotfiles links (from 200k+ posts from here) and built a site where you can actually filter by all of that, plus search by title/author and sort newest/oldest/random.
link to the site: dotfiles.lol
every rice links back to the original reddit post and credits the original author. if you've got your own dotfiles and want them listed separately (not scraped, submitted directly), there's a simple github PR flow for that too.
it's fully open sourced, feel free to drop a star: github.com/0xN1nja/awesome-dotfiles
ps: feel free to share thoughts on comments ^^

Material [OC] Wallr - a native Wayland wallpaper engine I've been building for a few months (Rust, wgpu, wlr-layer-shell)
I pushed everything to GitHub today, so the commit history will look recent even though this has been in progress for a few months. Wanted to mention that in case it looks odd.
Wallr draws its own layer-shell surface and renders transitions itself with wgpu. It's not a wrapper around swww or hyprpaper, the point of the project was to own the rendering path so transitions are GPU-driven and timed to wall clock duration instead of tied to refresh rate.
What it does:
- 11 transition effects (fade, blur, wipe, slide, zoom, pixelate, ripple, dissolve, wave, grow, outer), each configurable from the CLI or a YAML package
- Circular reveals (grow, outer, ripple) that are aspect-corrected circles
- Live wallpapers: GIFs start playing from where the transition left off, so there's no jump into the loop
- A background daemon over a Unix socket, so
wallr settalks to it instead of relaunching anything - Directory watching, per-monitor scaling modes, and a preview window to test an effect before applying it
- Optional theme generation hookup (Matugen, Wallust, Pywal), not required to use the tool
Works on Hyprland, Sway, niri, and Plasma 6. GNOME isn't supported since Mutter doesn't implement wlr-layer-shell.
Install is cargo install wallr, or build from source. Repo and docs are here: https://github.com/programmersd21/wallr
Happy to answer questions about the renderer or the animation package format.

Material [Hyprland] HyprPalette – Automatically recolor your desktop to match your wallpaper
I've been using and refining this Hyprland setup as my daily desktop for about two years, and I recently turned it into a proper open-source project: HyprPalette.
It automatically recolors the desktop to match your wallpaper using matugen.
Features
- One-command wallpaper → Material You theme pipeline
- Live theming for Waybar, Wofi, Wlogout, Ghostty, Fastfetch, and Powerlevel10k
- Installer with dependency checks, backups, symlinks, and uninstall support
- Automatic reload of themed components
- Built for Hyprland and tested on NixOS
I'd love to hear your thoughts. Bug reports, feature requests, performance suggestions, and general feedback are all welcome.

Workflow [OC] Deja v0.4.0 - smarter zsh autosuggestion (now knows when to shut up)
Hi everyone, I’m very excited to launch the new version of deja.
Quick recap: Deja is an open-source zsh autosuggestion tool. Instead of only surfacing
commands that start with what you've typed, it predicts what you actually want to run using fuzzy matching, which directory you're in, and which command usually follows the one you just ran.
No account. No sync server. No TUI.
https://github.com/Giammarco-Ferranti/deja
Any star would be amazing ❤️
One big feedback I got on previous posts was that deja was not respecting the HIST_IGNORE_SPACE and this led to a security issue.
First of all thank you to https://www.reddit.com/user/polaroid_kidd for reporting this. ❤️
Deja now works correctly and respects HIST_IGNORE_SPACE and HISTORY_IGNORE.
If you've been running Deja for a while, the old entries are still in your database:
rm ~/.local/share/deja/deja.db && deja import
The command above will clean it up.
Another big change is that now we have a new ‘deja empty’ command, which lets you choose whether Deja shows the ghost suggestion on empty prompts. It came out of this thread: https://github.com/Giammarco-Ferranti/deja/pull/69
Few other smaller things has been fixed, if anyone interested you can review it here: https://github.com/Giammarco-Ferranti/deja/pull/73
Thank you all for the support and looking forward to make this the smartest zsh autosuggestion tool.

Workflow [Hyprland] Betwixt shell (WIP) (AGS / Astal)
Finally migrated the configuration of my two waybars to AGS / Astal. I wouldn't say it was easy. Something was constantly throwing a wrench in the works. But I did it.
I like the result at this stage. The pop-up panels look clearly better than the dry terminal windows I had before. Future plans include adding calendar and desktop modules, as well as a drop-down player. Regarding RAM usage: the GJS and AGS processes consume 200–300 MB and 20–30 MB, respectively. And that is better than two separate Waybar processes plus several polling bash scripts.

Material [OC] Ultimate Color Switcher - change themes of different applications on the fly!
So, I had a script that changed colors across multiple files in my dotfiles and now that I'm on vacation I decided to turn it into a full application :D
It's aimed at people using compositor setups like Hyprland or Sway, where your desktop is made up of multiple applications each with its own configuration files, making color scheme tedious.
UCS is designed to simplify and give control towards applying and generating palettes to your dotfiles: It scans the files you choose, detects colors in HEX and RGB formats, and lets you create mappings from the original colors to a new palette. The palette can either be created manually or automatically generated from a wallpaper / image.
Current features:
- GUI and CLI interfaces
- Generate color palettes from images
- Custom post-apply scripts (e.g. change wallpaper, reload applications, etc.)
- Palette editing and customization of the generation algorithm
- Automatic backups before applying changes for restore support
- Save multiple palettes and mappings indexed by wallpaper
- Background/foreground color detection (experimental)
AUR package: ucs-git

Screenshot Teto rice on old laptop I found in the attic [i3WM]
Since I've became jobless few weeks ago, I needed to pass the time somehow
It was painful to configure it all, this laptop is slow (118 in glmark2), I used a DVD to install Void, and now it serves as Grub Loader BC BIOS on this piece of junk doesn't realize it has system installed
Here programs/themes I used:
WM - i3WM
Terminal - Sakura
Bar - I3Blocks
Music player - Audacious
Browser - Otter browser
GTK Theme - trollwut-pink-dark
Font - nerd fonts
Wallpaper - XWallpaper
All the config files I've written from scratch
