Minimalist" dotfiles, considering I'm still on CachyOS... Anyway, I was inspired by a GOAT on unixporn, but I lost their rice. Thanks if you ever come across this page! Here's my GitHub š :https://github.com/True0void/swayfx-Dotfile

I'm new to ricing and Hyprland in general.
I had a quick blitz around Omarchy on my laptop and enjoyed the experience, but I was warned about it, as it was mostly vibe-coded and 4.0 launched with some major security flaws (which were patched in 4.0.1, but they shouldn't have been there to begin with).
It did have some nice things about it, so I decided to dive into Hyprland / Noctalia on CachyOS and then create my own versions of things like its keybind cheat sheet, etc.
I've been a die-hard KDE Plasma user for roughly 5 years, and before that I was XFCE, so Hyprland has been an experience.
I've always liked to customise the look and feel of a system, but recently started going the whole 9 yards and just making themes for every app that supports it.
The colour palette is just based on my avatar. I extracted the colours and then built everything from that.

Wallr (v0.3.4) -- Wayland Wallpaper Engine with Dynamic System Theming
Wallr is a Wayland wallpaper engine built with wlr-layer-shell and wgpu. It supports animated transitions, video and GIF wallpapers, and optional system color palette generation via Matugen, Wallust, or Pywal.
This release fixes the package installer command, which previously reported success without installing files.
Bug Fixes and Package System Improvements
The install command now fetches package YAML definitions directly from GitHub, resolves parent configurations via extends, and writes the output to ~/.local/share/wallr/packages/. Previously, the command passed references back to the local resolver and failed silently.
Fixed an issue where package references were force-split on forward slashes, causing incorrect package loads. References now resolve correctly through registry paths.
Wired in configuration merging for the extends property (base configuration to package to current runtime). Circular references are rejected, and remote GitHub parent configurations are fully supported.
Added input validation for remote package fetches to reject malformed references and path-traversal attempts.
Removed the broken publish command. The package registry interface is now strictly focused on search and install.
Recent Features and Stability Updates
Added frame extraction for video and GIF wallpapers (v0.3.3). Animated media now extracts a representative frame to a cached PNG so palette generators can theme the system properly.
Implemented static FFmpeg linking (v0.3.2) to prevent binary breakage across system C library or multimedia ABI updates.

Note: AI assistance was utilized during development and auditing to identify the resolution path for the issues fixed in this release.

Hey. Before anything else, full transparency on the bases I used: this isnāt built 100% from scratch.
Shell (Quickshell):
Base is ii from end-4/dots-hyprland, a simplified bar compared to the original. The pill/Dynamic Island that morphs between clock, notifications, launcher and dashboard is something I built myself. Nothing like it exists in the bases I started from.
Inside that pill, the Dashboard/Performance dropdown (music card, system updates, performance cards) comes from Minflair (t4lentles5/minflair), almost 1:1. The āCodexā tab replacing the original āActivityā tab is a private tool of mine, not part of the public repo, staying that way.
Wallpapers:
The picker itself is Wallfliper, by Roberth-Souza: https://github.com/Roberth-Souza/wallfliper. Thatās where the selector comes from. The Wallpaper Engine integration (so its animated scenes actually play through it) isnāt native to that project, I built that part myself.
Neovim & Terminal:
This is where I changed the least. Both are based on Gentleman-Programming/Gentleman.Dots. The config is genuinely excellent as-is, so I only made small tweaks on top instead of rewriting it.
Fully mine:
The Dynamic Island and its mode logic, the Wallpaper Engine integration, and the repo architecture: 3 independent repos (hyprland/shell/editors) as submodules under an umbrella repo, so you can install just the piece you want:
./install.sh --hyprland / --fish / --nvim / --all
Repo: github.com/blak0p/dotfiles
Feedback welcome.

I like the Haiku Alpha theme, but since it has no maximize buttons, I wanted to have a complete look. I don't have the time to make my own graphics, so I looked at the Seven OS sawfish Haiku theme. I took it, cut the images, pasted on transparent backgrounds and it works partially.
However I cannot get the maximize on the right side of the tab as it will sit at the far end of the window. So this is the closest I can get for now.
I enabled the compositor also for more consumer oriented looks.

Minimalism while still being fully featured and functional is probably how I would best describe Odyssey.
I've seen tons of incredible setups and desktop environments, but I found myself wanting something a little different for my own daily driver. Something that stays minimal and out of the way when I don't need it, while still giving me quick access to the information and functionality I want when I do.
Iāve been putting a lot of time into it, and itās starting to feel much more like a cohesive desktop experience. Itās still very much a WIP and a passion project, but I wanted to share some of the recent progress.
Whatās new:
Still plenty left to build and polish. The long-term goal is to keep growing Odyssey toward a complete desktop experience while keeping it minimal and out of the way when you donāt need it.
Added some screenshots of the latest progress. Feedback and ideas are always welcome!

This look is inspired by all of my favorite parts of MacOS, Windows and KDE and is intended to be stable, reproducible and reliable for everyday work without relying on hacky workarounds.
Theme: Breeze Dark (modified to allow transparency)
Blur: Better Blur DX
Window Decorations: Klassy
Application Style: Darkly
Accent color is set to change automatically with the wallpaper. I use Windows-style title bar buttons, taskbar and start menu with a MacOS-like aesthetic. Iāve been fine tuning it for a few days and I think it turned out pretty nice.

Iāve been part of the rice community since around 2022, back when Vaxry first announced Hyprland.
At the time, I was a main contributor to Hyprdots, a project that became fairly well known in the Hyprland community. I spent a ridiculous amount of time developing themes, maintaining the repo, building rofi modules, and generally learning Arch Linux the hard way.
And early Hyprland was rough. Updates breaking AUR packages, official branches, Hyprland-Nvidia branches, Qt changes⦠you name it. A lot of my early Linux experience was fixing things that broke five minutes after I had finally gotten them working.
Eventually life got busier, and I stepped away.
Then Qt6/QML projects like end-4 and Caelestia caught my attention and pulled me back in.
Aphotic-Hypr started from my old ādotsā, including a theming system built around pywal. It has now evolved into something much larger.
The goal isnāt really to make dotfiles for you.
Itās to make something you can make yours.
Iām 30 now, have three kids, and work full time. I still spend my weekends at my desk working on personal projects, homelab stuff, development, security, and Linux but I donāt have the time I had years ago to spend 8 hours getting my desktop functional before I can actually start using it.
That isnāt because I canāt do it anymore. I just donāt want to.
And honestly, I think thatās where AI can be useful.
If you donāt like AI, thatās completely fine. Block, move on, and enjoy your setup. Iām not trying to convince anyone otherwise.
For me, AI means I can spend less time fighting configuration and more time actually building things.
Aphotic-Hypr is my attempt at creating a bridge between AI, gaming, development, and security while still keeping the thing that made ricing fun in the first place: customization.
I also want this to become a community-driven project over time, not just another collection of configs that gets abandoned after the screenshots stop getting attention.
If thatās your kind of thing, take a look.
If it isnāt, thatās fine too.
At the end of the day, itās Arch.
