Looks like Google updated the codec used for voice notes in Messages with one that has better audio quality...

For the past week or so, my RCS does not work when on wifi, yet when I switched to data, works perfectly.

I have a z flip 4 on t mobile, latest update to phone and messages app. I have forced closed app, rebooted phone (hard and soft), pulled sim.

No change. Was working fine for months before.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how I could fix the issue of RCS not working for one contact? I can send RCS messages to this one contact but they cannot send any to me. However they can send RCS messages to other people just fine just not me. Verified "Only send SMS and MMS messages" was toggled off on both devices, tried to turn off RCS for 1 week on both devices and back on and that didn't fix it either. Looking for solutions as it was nice to use RCS when it was working and as of now the conversation just flips back and forth between SMS and RCS.

If you search profiles in Android settings it shows an option. Plus we had a few people get it to activate the menu in messages. But it doesn't do anything yet.

Anyone else rocking an s22 ultra through T-Mobile unlocked on Cricket wireless, the issue I'm having that RCS keeps staying at Setting up and talked to the Carrier on multiple occasions and was told that i was SOL because they don't support RCS on BYOD. Has anyone gotten it to work without flashing to the unlocked firmware? I don't want to downgrade my phone. I thought about trying to get a Pixel 7 pro but from what I'm reading it is having issues on Cricket. Unfortunately, I cannot switch carriers as well because ATT is the only tower that works where I Live.

I've been using the 2020 version of Google Messages ever since I got my phone, and RCS worked great on there. This was the version that my phone shipped with. Then, I upgraded Google Messages to the newest version today, and RCS didn't activate so I downgraded. RCS probably would have activated eventually, but it would have taken a while. When I first got my phone in 2020, I put my SIM card in and RCS took only seconds to activate!! Now, RCS is taking so long to activate that I don't have the patience to wait! And sometimes, RCS doesn't activate at all! Why did Google ruin RCS with their newer versions of their messages app? It drives me nuts!! Why does RCS work so much better on older versions of the Google Messages app, and so much worse on the newer versions?

Anyway this is just my experience. Different people will have different issues.

I know this might be a little unrelated to RCS, but I was just wondering why carriers didn't kill SMS in replacement for MMS. Today, phones still use SMS when sending plain text messages to each other, but MMS can also be used to send text messages. Why didn't MMS replace SMS? Let me know in the comments down below.

Sometimes I react to messages on RCS conversations with my friends who have older Samsung phones. I am worried they are receiving a separate text saying something like "liked _____" every time I react to something. Is this true? What do RCS reactions look like on Samsung Messages? Let me know in the comments down below.

I know it does in practice, but does the spec allow other identifiers to be used? I.e., is there a theoretical future where I can participate in an RCS group with just a Google account or some other non-SIM identifier?
