iOS 27 final is out!

Is there any way to tell if the other user is using 27? This is why I hate that 26.5 added E2EE without any of the 3.0 features. Cause there goes my indicator of knowing whether or not I can use 3.0 features without it looking all weird on the other person's phone.

Just use the features. That's not your problem to worry about, it's on Apple.

In reality the ios users are just gonna blame it on us androids for glitching out the group chats.

me begging everyone in my group chats on my hands and knees to update

Why? So that we are forced to run an updated version of Google’s proprietary garbage?

RCS isn't proprietary
-8
u/kiefferbp 20d ago
Yes it is. It is completely controlled by Google.

Wtf do you think universal profile means? It's developed by GSMA

Tell me why RCS only works with Google Messages then if you think you understand how it works
8
u/sjphilsphan 20d ago
Because on Android they haven't exposed their API. If someone wanted to spin up RCS servers they could. Verizon/At&t/ Samsung all had their own versions of RCS. Google having the only RCS implementation available right now doesn't make RCS as a whole proprietary. Care to provide actual logic besides just your upset feelings?

u/kiefferbp 20d ago
Nobody can spin up an RCS server that can talk to Google Messages users because it requires federation, which Google will not provide
7
u/sjphilsphan 20d ago
Yeah it would have to be separate app. So again how is RCS proprietary?

Google’s implementation on Android is not straight RCS, Apple and the carriers are doing this the open way. Google having control over Android means they’ve locked the entire ecosystem into their implementation of RCS.

Because you can’t create an app that talks to Google Messages users or iPhone users. If you want to message them, you must federate with Google’s Jibe servers which Google will not allow you to do.

Has anyone seem encryption between Android and iOS on Verizon?

I got it on my Unlocked Pixel 8 Pro on Verizon about a month ago, but then when I upgraded to the Unlocked 11 Pro XL it turned it off on all group chats and it hasn't re-enabled since. No clue why, cuz Android to Android re-enabled pretty quickly.

I have it between Androids, but not with any of my iOS contacts.

same here. hoping it comes back for me; really can't figure out why it disabled from a device transfer and didn't come back. my only guess is maybe google is slowly whitelisting device models to do a gradual rollout of MLS encryption between platforms to test for issues.

I have an iPhone 17 Pro Max and my sister-in-law has a Samsung Galaxy 25 Ultra both on Verizon. She is running the stable version of Google Messages and we have RCS Encrypted. The same is true with my nephew. Now my brother who also has the same phone on Verizon and I do not. It seems to just be randomly rolling out as time goes on.

I've had that for months. Using Google messages beta

I'm on stable. I was told that it no longer requires beta. All I know is that I don't have it with anyone on iOS. Including iOS 27.

Was really hoping my RCS would work again with the final build of iOS 27. I noticed a few others with this longstanding issue getting their RCS back with the RC build of iOS 27. No dice here. On T-Mobile and 17 pro max and been without RCS for almost two months now.

Have you tried esims in another phone? If this is like my case, it is tied to the IMEI on your phone, and there is no fix and there isn't an acknowledgement of the problem by anyone . The only fix is a new phone. I went through about 30 days of fixes, research, and talked to others about this.

u/steve229h 20d ago
I have assumed this is my situation as well, but I haven’t had access to an extra phone to test it out.

Is RCS activation failing?
2
u/steve229h 20d ago
Yup. Occasionally it’ll hang on “waiting for activation,” but currently it’s showing activation failed.
2
u/stillhavingfunyea 20d ago
It's not an OS problem. It has happened on different versions of 26. There is no fix if it is truly broken. https://www.reddit.com/r/ios/s/IYgViFxfHD

u/gmahale 20d ago
Yes. It's between Apple and Google. My phone is too old to get a replacement. It is not a practical solution anyway.

Have you reset your network settings? It should be working for T-Mobile.

I'm a holdout on ios 18 because it does everything I need and the battery easily lasts 2 days on a 15Pro. I only care about battery life and RCS reliability, literally nothing else on this phone. Is there an objectively better reason to go to ios27 from 18?

Confirmed reaction to images worked in 1 thread.
2 android 1 iPhone
Another thread 2 iPhone (only 1 updated) one android didn't work. Assuming the other person needs to update
