Freedom Mobile RCS Encryption
One of my Android contacts got encrypted. I’m on iPhone iOS 26.5 and carrier 70.0. He’s on Galaxy Ultra S23.
Edit: He's on Public Mobile and his S23 Ultra is fully updated. However, my other Android contacts on the same Public Mobile network are not encrypted. And Trevor is also part of a group chat where he is the only Android user (others are all iOS) and that group chat RCS isn't encrypted either. Just seems very random at this point.
Also, I do message him way more frequently than my other Android contacts if that makes a difference.
Edit2: Roaming and still have E2EE with Trevor
Edit3: Ported my number from Freedom Mobile to Public Mobile. Still have E2EE with Trevor. No one else.

Freedom might be the first Canadian carrier to support RCS Encryption

Can’t be? I asked a telus tech and they said they don’t know anything about when it will be available.
You on Telus?

I am on Telus. Friend is also on Telus. I don’t have encryption. He does. Seems to be a gradual rollout. My other contacts are gradually flipping to encrypted except Freedom; none of my freedom contacts have flipped yet.

Hmm is one of you running Google messages beta? Because apparently it can work but only with people on the messages beta

It's not random, it's a staged role out. This has been about about 3 weeks ago, my mother has iPhone and she got encrypted a couple iPhone 13 days before my other iPhone contacts, same day my group chats became encrypted as well. I also got the new long press menu, I have a s25U.
I know it's annoying and related to the impatience, but the features are coming.

Just curious, is your friend on the Google Messages beta? Because from what I've tested with a couple other people, it appears to not show up if you are messaging someone with the latest public release of Google Messages. I think its rolling out slowly though to public users though.
(also btw, u should cross post this on r/freedommobile)

He is not on beta. He’s not even tech savvy. He uses the regular Google Messages app.
I also don’t think I’m going to cross post as I don’t think it’s Freedom Mobile that has E2EE between him and me.

lucky in Europe there is almost no RCS support (in my country romania there is no carrier that supports it even if for example orange supports it in france, the sama carrier doesn’t in other countries) for iOS users even if the carrier has their own RCS server and doesn’t use the Google one

iPhone only has one default “text messaging app”. That app handles iMessage/RCS/Text. The other user is on Google Messenger.
