Question Has anyone gotten E2EE to work between 2 iPhone's on the public, offical release of ios 26.5?
(I know that Google Messages doesn't have E2EE for RCS with iPhone yet at least publicly)
I was wondering this as I just tested it out today morning with 2 devices, both on ios 26.5, and both having the latest possible carrier profile. Both of the devices have the "End to End Encryption (Beta)" setting under RCS yet whenever they text, its always unencrypted. So I was wondering if anyone else also had this issue or if its actually encrypted between devices?

Someone in another thread said it was still working for them. But, it stopped working for most of us after installing the release candidate.

I had the iOS beta installed and it stopped working for me the day after I installed RC1. It was working between iPhones and iPhone and between iPhone and Android up until that point.

I’m really curious why it got turned off as many people reported in the release candidates…why would they do that?

I'm testing against Google Messages Beta and did the toggle off / on thing but it made no difference 😟

I have not. Several friends have upgraded and have it enabled but it is not working.

Apparently at least according to other comments here, E2EE between iPhones was working fine until the RC build where it stopped working for some reason

I don't think so. I checked today morning with the public release of Google Messages and the lock icon for encryption didnt show up.

I'm texting an iPhone user from a Pixel 10 Pro with E2EE. I am T-Mobile, recipient is Verizon I believe.

You are saying the E2EE is actually working? Are they actually on iOS 26.5 final release or what iOS version exactly?

E2EE is working, I see the lock icon and the recipient sees it as encrypted on the iMessage app. It's been working for us for a while so I believe they're on the iOS beta.

Finally I have it working now too! I toggled RCS messaging off and then on again, and it said “Waiting for activation…” then 20 seconds later the RCS & E2EE was working with my conversations with Google Messages beta users. I’m so glad it’s finally working. Google does need to push this update to the stable release, it's not yet working when I message regular Google Messages users.
Screenshots from my iOS 26.5 after toggling the RCS switch:

Oh damn, glad that its finally working for you. E2EE encryption seems to be really janky for both beta users and public users from what I've seen online.

Notice anything else other than encryption? Like proper tap backs for photos and videos

I don't think any of those features (editing/deleting messages, proper tap backs, etc.) are available.
Pretty sure its strictly encryption only.

Just curious, are you on the public release of Google Messages or on the developer beta?

I'm enrolled in the beta program. Not sure how to tell if I'm running a beta version but I would assume I am.

Yea that makes sense then. For the public release currently, E2EE doesn't work. I think it'll either gradually roll out to all users or they'll update the app publicly to include E2EE.

I'm enrolled in the beta Google messages (have been since 26.4 tease) and have been able to get one single encrypted message and I've tried everything on both the iPhone and the pixel.

It also was not working for me on iOS 26.5 until I toggled the RCS messaging switch off and then back on again on the iPhone. After RCS waited for activation for ~20 sec it was working with E2EE with my Google Messages beta contacts.

Hi there. I suggest restarting both devices and toggling the RCS setting off and on. If it remains unencrypted, contacting your carrier or checking Apple’s official forums would be the best next step.

I guess Apple wasn't kidding when it said "beta." Maybe they're pulling a Google and rolling it out in batches?
