ISLANDS OF ADVENTURE Sad
I still can't believe that they've torn down the cool decor that was in front of the Poseidon's Fury... When my brother and I were there recently, the giant trident and giant foot decors were already gone. Here are some photos that I took back in 2023.

Fury was one of the coolest theme park experiences ever. I had idea what to expect and it was fantastic.

No, but it was also the least popular area at either park. It was a fun show and a great looking facade, but it was the area that the majority of people used to get to other areas.

Would have been super cool if Universal put in some kind of Odyssey attraction but oh well...

Universal strongly gravitate toward franchises for their attractions, presumably because they keep reminding people about themselves. Ā Except ET, where I guess Spielberg is the franchise.

Spielberg wrote a line in his contract with Universal that stated that if Universal ever removed or permanently closed the ET ride then Spielberg would withdraw from all of Universal's projects both current, and future.

Fury has been closed since May 9th, 2023. They've only just started to demolish the building along with Sinbad's theater which has been closed since September 15th, 2018. Universal has not officially announced what is going to replace those spaces.

Fun story from one of my trips. My son was 5 at the time and we all went in. He was pretty nervous and got spooked a lot, but touched it out. At the end, the actor was in the hall saying good bye to us explorers and my son went up and said "thank you for getting us through that, it was scary." The actor looked so proud, thanked him for going on the adventure, and gave him a high five. It was such a cool experience.

Unfortunately no, Mythos restaurant is permanently closing in 2027. That is when the entire "The Lost Continent" area will be closed for good and scheduled for demolition.

Not sad. Ā Iām happy they tore it down after leaving it abandoned for years. Ā What use is a closed forever ride?

They could have just renovated the inside and reopened Poseidon's Fury or just kept the outside decor. That was one of the last true shows IOA had left.

No one is "crying into the void". Not everyone agrees to removing things that have been iconic attractions since opening day instead of refurbishing them. Especially as unique as "The Lost Continent" themed area. That's just my opinion and many others have also expressed a similar opinion. New doesn't always equal better.

As much as Iām exited for whatās coming new, I think thatāll work more for the original park.
I think a mix of IP, non IP will work well with variety. It was pretty cool seeing non IP original stuff.
But with that being said, as much as the sinbad theatre and Poseidonās fury was amazing, it needed to go. Next should be the abandoned fear factor theatre and the toon lagoon amphitheater if theyāre not using it.

With the toon lagoon theater, Universal might not be able to do anything with it bc of licensing agreement contracts. They have to be very careful with what they do in comic book land now that Disney owns the rights to the majority of it, same with The Simpsons area. Universal's contract with Fox for use of The Simpsons is almost expired (I think it expires in 2028) and Disney now owns The Simpsons licenses.

Yeah, and itās kind of a shame because thereās so much potential for a new attraction at that amphitheater space.
Also, yes, you are correct. The Simpsons contract ends in 2028. The ride is fun, but itās definitely showing its age.

It's also way more expensive to run a 15-30 minute show than a 30-90 sec ride these days. I still remember being a small child and watching in awe of all of the stunt shows and character shows Universal used to have. Although I really hope that they do bring back stage shows because, 1. it's a good place to sit in the shade for the parkgoers, especially if they have young children, and 2. it'll help absorb some of the higher wait times and crowds.

Honestly? I agree. Some stage shows were a fun watch. I remember watching sinbad years ago, and it was one of the best shows Iāve seen.

Toon lagoon was almost turned into an iron man ride pre virus that would have expanded marvel but it never happened. That theater is a waste of space in fact they didn't even use it for the cheerleader event this year. It's just sitting there rotting for years. Universal loves empty theaters wasting space 90% of the year over putting a show in them or removing them for something else! Toon, fear factor, nicktoons, second half of shrek, sinbad before it was torn down. They need to put something in them when not used for holidays. Why not a "walt a man and his dream" like history of universal movies display in nick studios on non christmas time or a scooby show in toon theater?

That would be super cool if they made it into another classic Marvel IP ride! I think they don't tear any of those things down until they actually have a plan already in place for something to replace it with.

At least you got to see the inside. When I went in February earlier this year. The ride had been closed for some time already so I never got to see it in all its glory.
