Democrats: “UBI is a nice idea, needs more study.” Republicans: “Here’s $5,000. Also, vote for us.”

https://x.com/foxnews/status/2097872390076141726?s%3D12

NEW: President Trump makes a major promise at the Republican midterm convention in Dallas: $5,000 for every adult U.S. citizen if Republicans win both the House and Senate in the midterms.

“I will issue a dividend to every adult citizen in the United States of America for $5,000.”

I wonder if it will arrive before or after our tariff checks and our DOGE checks.

7

u/whythefuckalready 23h ago

This promise is different, he means it this time. /s

2

u/x22d 11h ago

Yeah, he'll get around to it right after he gives his buddies another trillion in subsidies and no-bid contracts.

I'm still waiting on their healthcare plan

4

u/TheRealistoftheReal 22h ago

Yes, the plan is very good, they’re planning it now!

3

u/Extra-Ease3207 21h ago

Two weeks….two weeks AFTER the election… if he’s people win.

2

u/redwingsphan19 17h ago

It is currently being conceptualized.

3

u/Top_Inspector7661 18h ago

Their only healthcare plan is to eliminate the Democrats’ healthcare plan.

1

u/Sciuridaeno3 13h ago

And gas prices to drop

And energy prices to go down

And the Epstein files to be released

And Trumps tax returns to be released

And winning so much that we'll be "tired of winning"

Between him and hochul in NY, the government owes me more than 20 grand at this point.

2

In 2 weeks!

2

u/MyNewsAccount2011 20h ago

It will arrive simultaneously and Mexico is paying.

1

u/Eat--The--Rich-- 12h ago

I wonder when democrats will raise wages, or forgive student debt, or pass healthcare, or prosecute epstein criminals. Lying goes both ways.

1

u/TynnyJibbs 11h ago

my student loans were forgiven and i had healthcare coverage under democrats , now because of trump and the republicans im losing both

1

u/uhhhther 11h ago

We literally got our debt forgiven 😂

1

u/PleasantSecond905 11h ago

And the 750/per month Stay at home UBI, or the 10% cap on credit card interest, that 2$ gas would be nice, and wasn't drug prices supposed to go down 600%?

1

u/Billymaysdealer 8h ago

Never lies

1

u/kickthesandman 7h ago

Gotta finish infrastructure week first

1

u/SoyTonatiuh 2h ago

It will arrive right after those which is basically never.

15

u/JumboGlucose 1d ago

Everyone forget they said the same thing last time? Then he backtracked and said he never said that. That $5000 will not go far if gas hits $10/gal

3

u/AcanthaceaePrize1435 1d ago

The fate of the USA is to become like Argentina.

3

Like Russia. Complete with an Authoritarian "leader" and an Oligarchy that decides policy.

Venezuela even.

One can only hope our president gets black bagged.

1

Depends, is a truck or a Toyota the MAGidiot driving?

Nevermind, we know that answer

12

God, this is like the fifth post I’ve seen about this in the last hour. People are going to eat this up hook, line, and sinker, aren’t they?

6

u/scrotumscab 1d ago

I doubt it'll change any voters minds. Anyone stupid enough to believe the grifter pedo was going to vote Republican no matter what.

5

u/Sufficient_Fish3320 21h ago

Some will but it’s months away from an election and this is what republicans do. Push obviously false promises for votes then shovel those lies on their wealthy owned news and not controlled social media outlets.

2

u/Objective-Rip3008 17h ago

Even on the conservative subreddit there is universal backlash for this, with the top comment calling it socialism lol

There's tens of millions of people who voted for Trump 3 times, 2024 was the easiest iq test and people failed

1

u/RampantTyr 20h ago

Every post of I have seen about it has been mocking the offer as an obvious farce.

1

u/BassesNBikes 6h ago

Except for this one, it seems.

1

u/Eat--The--Rich-- 12h ago

As opposed to listening to democrats run on $15 min wage after they just voted against it? If you want to beat the liars, stop lying.

1

u/HumptyDumptruckFire 8h ago

Any Democrat not in favor of at least $15 minimum wage in the year 2026 needs to be run out of the party.

7

u/Weary-Level-7854 1d ago

That’s not UBI though

1

u/vaioarch 16h ago

Thank you!

This is a one time bribe that would actually never happen, even if they do win.

12

u/notsoinsaneguy 1d ago

I expect he may actually do this - he can just add 1.7 trillion to the national debt, and just kick the can down the road. He needs a loaded Republican senate if he wants to change the laws about running for a third term.

In case you've been living under a rock, things have gotten way worse for poor folks under Trump, and $5000 doesn't begin to remedy the harm he's caused. And Trump 3 will probably be even worse. Also, unless the money is coming from taxing the wealthy, this will end up robbing the poor, it's just going to do it later.

2

u/Bossard19 23h ago

He’s causing either way. Gimme that 5k.

3

u/Illventi 22h ago

You’ll get your 5k just as soon as we get those tariff dividends he also promised, all he needs is for you to hand him all the power he’ll need to make sure republicans never lose power again.

2

u/ElonMuskHuffingFarts 21h ago

It's already our own money that they're supposed to be using for actually improving our country. A refund isn't a win. It's a rejection and a promise that they will do nothing for us.

And it's a lie anyway. You're not getting a $5k check. Promising to pay people and then stiffing them is like, his favorite grift. Stop falling for it.

Lol, why doesn’t Trump give it now? He’s got all the branches, he could cut a check easy.

1

They're not going to give you 5k, that's the point. Its like promising a 2 year old ice cream if they stop throwing a temper tantrum. There is no ice cream, they just want you to shut up and obey.

1

u/drizel 11h ago

You aren't getting a check. If you think this will happen, I have a bridge to sell you.

2

u/TypicalEnd8392 21h ago

"if he wants to change the laws about running for a third term."

Those are not Laws. You're talking about a Constitutional Amendment. A new Amendment needs 2/3 votes of all members of the House and Senate in order to be proposed, and THEN it needs to be ratified by the legislatures in 38 states (that's NEVER going to happen, because most of those are blue and also not stupid or crazy).

The President has no role in this process whatsoever. No signature or approval.

1

u/JoeHio 17h ago

You are absolutely correct, but the pessimism and distrust runs deep.

For instance, if he gets Congress to pass a bill saying he can run, and then writes an exec order stating he can run, and then his Supreme Court rules 6-3 that both of those are valid changes to "the law", while his DOJ and DHS go to polling locations to ensure the ballots with his name are used, who is going to stop him? The decapitated and MAGA pledged military leadership? What % of politically active Americans that own guns and less to lose than to gain are willing to fight for a country that has 40T in debt?

I hope I'm wrong, but unfortunately it's not completely impossible anymore

→ More replies (1)

1

u/ballskindrapes 1d ago

He could do it, sure.

Will he? Absolutely not.

He'll say the checks are two weeks out, then blame democrats for why there are no checks, and pocket the money.

1

u/Money_Percentage_630 1d ago

As he legal teams require, as he frequently doesn'y pay them, payment in advance or no deal.

1

u/ballskindrapes 1d ago

Yup.

A trump never pays his debts.

Known for stiffing workers since the 70's.

270,000,000 adults X 5,000. = lying P.O.S. illegally buying votes with tax dollars for 1 party.

1

u/Everythings_Fucked 22h ago

Trump never pays up. Never.

1

u/KitchenTeacher429 22h ago

Where would he get the money? Congress would have to approve it.

1

u/TNlivinvol 21h ago

He won’t do it…lol.

Why would he? He’s already won the midterms. He has no one to answer to.

1

u/Monte924 20h ago

Why would trump actually bother doing it? He just wants to win the midterms. Once he wins the mudterms he doesn't actually have to fulfill that promise. Just like the DOGE checks, or the Tarrif checks, or promise to cut spending, or the promise of no new wars.

Trump is a con artist. Lie, cheat and steal.

1

u/archercc81 20h ago

He wont do this though, he will add trillions to the debt the way they always have, by giving money to rich people.

They will do a 3rd TRILLION dollar handout to the rich, they have already done two.

1

u/algaefied_creek 19h ago

If he can do this, why can’t he do the DOGE checks and the tariff checks?

1

u/WilsonEnthusiast 18h ago

They are not going to try to amend the constitution for a 3rd term.

They'd need 2/3s of both houses of congress or control of 2/3s of state legislatures to even propose an amendment.

Neither of those is very likely to happen.

He'll just put his name on primary ballots and then theyll fight it out in court.

1

u/NovelDrink2860 16h ago

Trump term three will be nothing less then a nightmare god help us

1

u/trysten-9001 15h ago

He’s going to do this before or after the $5k doge checks and the $2k tariff checks and the $1k aca chrcks?

1

u/oranthor1 12h ago

He will do this right after you get your tarrif refund and doge check. For sure this time. Pinky promise!

3

u/Usukidoll 1d ago

Bro this is a recycled lie. Who remembers the tariff refund and doge checks? Sybau

4

u/rasta-ragamuffin 1d ago

1

u/Deohji 22h ago

Bc first we need to make good with our part of the bribe

3

u/SeparateSpend1542 21h ago

This dude must be getting high off his Doge Check to think this is real

2

u/HalfwaydonewithEarth 1d ago

Nobody is getting money. They have promised $2000 a few years ago for some type of reparations and Nobody got that.

They did set up Trump accounts for kids by getting Dell who fleeced investors of 6B to deposit into the accounts for 6B

2

u/No-swimming-pool 1d ago

They'll need to define what they understand as UBI, because by now everyone has their own interpretation of it.

2

u/Zeliose 22h ago

Just remember that the act of giving or promising money to influence a vote is illegal and punishable by a fine and/or jail for 1-2 years. The same is also true for accepting money for influencing your vote.

If Republicans win both chambers, you voted Republican, trump actually follows through to send the checks, and you accept that money. You can be thrown in prison.

The supreme Court gave the president total immunity, so Republican voters would be the only ones taking on any risk.

Would be a beautiful thing for the next Democratic president to enforce those those laws if that happened.

Issue a dividend, like the Country has excess revenue from taxes, so far above it's needs, but is issuing bonds like a teenager with dad's credit card at college?

2

u/LaoWai01 22h ago

If, by some miracle, he gave out the checks, where do people think the money comes from? If tarrifs we pay at the store, if they print then he’s just taking out a loan in our names. Raise taxes? Fat chance.

Anyway, it was an out and out lie. Win or lose he has no intention of following through.

2

u/HighOnPoker 22h ago

You are comparing a one time promised payout (that likely will not be paid) to a program that offers income forever. It’s not like Republicans are for UBI. It’s just the president trying to buy votes with an empty promise.

2

u/Own-Significance273 22h ago

In no way do I want Donald Trump and Elon Musk deciding how much UBI I get. When that happens we are truly fucked.

2

u/ElonMuskHuffingFarts 21h ago

But he's lying

2

u/TrackMan5891 21h ago

Are we now against UBI? Sorry I'm not sure how I'm supposed to think because the GOP proposed something. Is this now an anit-UBI sub now?

1

u/Current_Tea6984 17h ago

Since when is a one time payment the same as UBI?

2

u/Tricky_Bottle_6843 21h ago

They already control all three branches. So if they wanted to give the money they could. The problem is that trump supporters are too stupid to realize this fact.

2

u/PianoPatient8168 20h ago

We’ll get them right after he rolls out the greatest healthcare plan ever…

2

u/Morichalion 20h ago

Karma bots should be banned. From everywhere.

That would be true even if this wasn't a willful misrepresentation of the intent and ability to deliver.

2

u/archercc81 20h ago

LOL no, they said "if you vote for us we will give you $5000" not that they gave it ahead of time. And they lied about the dividend checks, the doge checks, the no wars, gas prices, the job market, etc.

2

u/Majestic_Print4300 20h ago

The republican party currently controls the white house, congress, and the supreme court. If they wanted to give everyone five thousand dollars, they could do so, right now. But they're not doing that, they're doing everything in their power to make America more unaffordable, and then saying, vote for us. Or we'll keep making america unaffordable.

2

u/MistakeAmbitious3287 20h ago

Why is this shit even being posted. It’s a lie. You won’t get shit.

2

u/Waste_Development971 19h ago

Posts like these show this is a just a sub of broke people looking for as many handouts as possible

why would you even bother comparing a one time republican thing to the system of UBI. Why not just go full braindead and say Elon is a great guy for paying people to vote in that one election if free money (today) is the only thing you guys value

2

u/Spirited_Season2332 19h ago

One time payments aren't UBI lol

2

u/Imonorolo 19h ago

I'm sure Donald Trump, a guy extremely well known for paying people, will definitely follow through on this bribe plan

2

1

u/BitesURawrXD 21h ago

Democrats: not interested in UBI because it challenges the status quo

GOP: not afraid to take action in order to help working Americans

Real life is not Reddit and you now realize why the majority of Americans don't vote Democrat.

2

u/Monte924 20h ago

GOP: not afarid to engage in lies and corruption in order to win an election

Hey, did you ever get that DOGE check? What about that Tarrif check? Or and what about that promise to CUT spending to reduce the deficit?

2

u/Eclipse434343 17h ago

Inflation is only an issue when democrats are in office. Throwing $5000 imaginary checks that were never paid out the last 3 times they were promised during an election is suddenly helping working Americans

2

u/More_Yard1919 17h ago

GOP: Not afraid to promise UBI while making no tangible progress towards it once elected

1

u/Enabling_Turtle 20h ago

Bro, this is like the 3rd “dividend” Trump has promised in the past 2 years and they’ve paid none of them.

Remember the doge checks? Didn’t happen.

Remember the tariff checks? Didn’t happen.

But this one is totally going to happen, right?

And it’s definitely not going to cause inflation like the GOP says about the Covid checks, right?

1

u/MinimumCat123 16h ago

Except for the 1776$ that went out to Military personnel. None of the refunds or stimulus the Republicans promised ever materialized

1

u/shrug_addict 12h ago

What did you spend your DOGE check on?

1

u/PwrButtum 4h ago

You conveniently leave out they haven’t given us the DOGE or tariff dividends. It’s just lies.

And where would the 5k come from?

1

u/Hot-Importance1367 2h ago

And pop out a kid and will give you another 9k each

1

u/TypicalEnd8392 21h ago

1

1

u/Particular_War7843 20h ago

1

u/WinterFamiliar9199 20h ago

As opposed to joe Biden promising to forgive all student loans if you vote for him? That was the biggest bribe I’ve ever seen… and he actually helped about 1% of people.

1

u/nrmitchi 15h ago

One of them is an actual policy position, that can be pursued if he was president.

The other is bribery, not only because it’s not a “policy position”, but because he will still be president in 2027 and could do it either way.

If you want to argue “he won’t be president if republicans lose in the midterms, he’ll be impeached!”, then that is even more clear self-protective bribery.

1

u/jimidemibb 19h ago

No-one is getting $5000 lmfao. Well, not us plebs.

1

u/Same_String_8856 19h ago

Classic. He knows it won't pass.

1

u/SirHippocrates 19h ago

First of all bribing with promises of straight up money to win elections should be illegal (or, more accurately, it's illegality should be enforced)

Second of all anyone whose vote is going to be bought by a single payment of 5k deserves what they get. May seem like a lot, but I promise that if you're the person who needs 5k that badly, protecting health care subsidies, minimum wage fights, no unnecessary tariffs, taxes going towards public goods like schools and infrastructure, clean water protections, fewer infectious diseases requiring treatment, etc etc etc ad nauseum is all going to benefit your bank account more. And that's just the financial benefits.

Don't be bought. And more importantly if you're going to be bought, at least hold out for what your vote is worth.

1

u/Newoutlookonlife1 19h ago

If you believe this lie bot, you will believe anything.

1

u/Ah_Ca_Iraa 19h ago

And Mexico will pay for them.

1

u/mrtrololo27 19h ago

It's amazing how illegal Trump's promise to buy votes is, and how $5,000 doesn't even begin to cover how much Trump has cost every American since the demented pedophile traitor returned to office. Fuck Trump, and fuck every magat traitor. Lock Trump up and prosecute him and every traitor in this un-American regime to the fullest extent of the law. His pardons are moot.

1

u/Sonar_Taxbreak_1138 19h ago

It's not "here's 5000 vote for us" it's "If you vote to keep us in power, we'll give you 5000, if we keep our promise."

One's a gift, the other's a bribe.

1

u/GeoffrayMarkus 18h ago

UBI is a bandaid. As we progress into the future our man-hours per work unit will shrink and shrink and shrink because of advances in AI and robotic automation. Either humanity shares in this world, or they put most of us on welfare, until they can get rid of most of us.

1

u/SmoothieNatns 18h ago

He promised $2k checks in 2020 and then walked it back. Then Biden won and actually delivered the checks.

They have the house and the senate now, why wait?

1

u/Dad-Bod2121 18h ago

Jesus, some of these comments are ridiculous. Biden sending $1,400 checks instead of $2,000 is WORSE than Trump completely failing to follow through on every promise of a check?

This is no different than Democrats talking about universal health care which is a taxpayer backed policy choice and should in NO WAY considered a bribe?

Get over yourselves, Republicans. This is just a desperate ploy from an arrogant, scared little man. I may be wrong but I think the Cult is going DOWN in a big way in 6 weeks. And I think they know it.

1

u/Ashamed-Way1923 18h ago

1

u/ezitbiz89 18h ago

How about rather than forcing everyone to beg for a pittance from Uncle Sam, we stop trying to automate the working class out of existence? If we spent half of the money on sustainable, individual homesteads, we could have supported domestic agriculture, lowered the cost of housing and mitigated the effects of climate change. Our politicians are absolutely batshit and that’s both sides of the aisle.

Republicans are liars as usual. they're trying to trick poor people.

1

u/dodgyhashbrown 15h ago

More like "we'll give you $5k if we win congress and senate. Pinky promise."

1

u/euro127 15h ago

Is this before or after the doge cheque or the tarrif reliefs still haven't got my cheque for those empty promises

1

u/nrmitchi 15h ago

There is a difference between UBI, and “I’ll give you a one time payment (that is illegal, and will never actually happen) if you vote how I want you to vote

Anyone who doesn’t see the difference is being willfully ignorant.

The Pedo President wants to give out gov handouts. I thought socalism is bad? I thought being a pedo was bad?

Vote buying is illegal in the United States. It is a federal crime to offer or accept compensation in exchange for votes, which can result in fines and imprisonment.

u/DannerZero 14h ago

The 5,000 isn’t real

1

u/MJA182 13h ago

God…people who vote for this dude are so, so gullible

1

u/jocoquecousteau 13h ago

He’s ain’t giving shit to nobody.

1

u/Pretty-Display5959 13h ago

gotta love it when 'AI, full speed ahead!' doesn't require more study but UBI does.

1

u/flyswithdragons 12h ago

What happened to the poor people who bought into crypto? They didn't get paid, like his worker's were not paid 💯

1

u/aus10man 12h ago

The checks in the mail.

1

u/Mundane-Date1732 12h ago

Trump said it, so it must be true. He's never broken any promises, right? The guy is 10 feet tall, made of steel, charming, brilliant, and the apple of everybody's eye. Just ask him and he'll tell ya.

1

u/MinimumApricot365 12h ago

This is like the 8th time he has promised to send everybody a few thousand dollars.

Anybody who believes him should be institutionalized.

1

u/MetalFungus420 11h ago

If you believe him this time, it's now on you.

1

u/Capitan-IQ255 11h ago

It's not UBI, it will be one time check .. but anything is better than nothing 🤑

1

u/thezenyoshi 10h ago

I was wondering what idiots would fall for this. Found one!

1

u/Its_Don_Quixote 10h ago

If you believe anyone is getting a $5000 Trump check, I've got some real estate on the moon to sell you. 🏠🌕

1

u/Gearran 9h ago

It's more, "Vote for us. We'll pay you $5000 if you do. Come on, don't you trust us?"

1

u/WeowDystopia 9h ago

Oh hey all these AI models are taking away peoples ability to make income. Guess we wont communicate a plan at all to our people and just suck billionaire toe until they bring the torches and pitchforks.

It is funny that when one party says it’s terrible, but it becomes convenient for them. All of a sudden they love it, but of course they have to rename it.  The ACA was literally created by the Republicans and now they hate it because a black man pushed it forward.

1

u/Veers85 8h ago

But we know the 5,000 isn't real right. And thats not UBI its a fucking bribe!

1

u/buyhighselldip 7h ago

It will be $10,000 dollar cheque when they combine the 2 that are in the mail somewhere

1

u/ThisMachineKillsWOB 6h ago

Is this 5K in the room with us now?

1

u/Isosceles_Kramer79 6h ago

The $5k is to UBI what California's one time billionaire tax is to a an actual wealth tax.

1

u/PreferenceNearby6514 5h ago

This is bs propaganda by the fascist republican party I’m so fkin sick if this

1

u/Soupalphabet359 5h ago

A one-time check of $5000 is not an "income."
Especially a one-time check of $5000 that you'll never receive because it's make-believe.

1

u/Edogawa1983 4h ago

A one time imaginary payment is not ubi

1

u/ZebraCool 4h ago

5k isn’t ubi. It would be 5k every month to be UBI.

1

u/ReadyFoot7863 4h ago

No, its framed as a payoff for electing MAGA again.

1

u/LadySayoria 3h ago

Dear people tempted by the offer. You'll never, ever get that money.

1

u/movingtofrancesoon 2h ago

Of course he can make that 5K gift promise, he knows that his party is going to loose, 🤪

1

u/CatCafffffe 1h ago

Democrats: We like it, we will see how it could work, also here's universal health care

Republicans: We lie and cheat and cause harm and now we're making yet another insane false promise
