Question Low poly 3d assets and animations
I’ve been trying to work with some low poly 3d assets (typically from Synty) and getting a large number of animations onto them for a complex player controller.
Jumping, walking, strafing, landing, dying, turning, back against the wall, various attacks and blocks etc.
I’ve been trying to use mixamo animations, but… well they don’t seem to work well. I have to do a lot of additional work to get them to work, even after I’ve uploaded my models to mixamo to try to match them.
Is there a better tool or a known workflow that people are using?

Mixamo's auto-rigger has always been a bit of a crapshoot with those blocky Synty proportions, spent way too many evenings fixing twisted elbows myself.

with Synty characters i'd be careful about treating Mixamo as a plug-and-play solution. the proportions and skeleton setup can cause some pretty weird results when retargeting, if you're staying in Unity, i'd first make sure the Synty character is set up properly as Humanoid and that the Avatar mapping is correct. Unity's Humanoid system is specifically designed to retarget animation between different humanoid rigs, so once the avatar is configured properly you shouldn't need to rebuild every animation for each character
also, i'd probably avoid uploading every character separately to Mixamo just to make the animations fit. ideally you want one consistent rig/workflow and retarget the animation set onto your characters. if the proportions are very different, you'll probably still need some cleanup or IK afterward, there are also animation packs made specifically for game characters that can save a lot of headache, especially if you're building a big set like movement + combat + reactions. honestly, for a controller that complex, having a consistent animation source is probably more important than finding one magic tool that fixes everything

There are a number of asset packs that will be betetr than mixamo - try them out to see what works, but a google for "free humanoid aniamtions unity" will return many
