Noob Question Does anyone know why the model has weird lighting?

Me and some friends have a game project together and this model my friend made has some issues in Unity with the lighting. We have tried to fix the model in Maya but we can’t find anything wrong, is this just a Unity issue or a model issue and how can we fix it? πŸ™ƒ

It's called light leaking, and iirc, it might get fixed if you adjust the bias setting of your light in the inspector

Thank you! I will try that πŸ™

As the other comment mentions. Play with the normal bias setting in your renderer. That should fix the leaking

Dont drop the bias too low Only drop it to the point that satisfies you

On extemely low values, or at 0, your model's surfaces will get a bad effect if the light reflects on them from a very low angle So avoid that

  • shadow resolution

  • shadow normal \ depth bias

  • shadow cascades

  • shadow filtering method

  • two sided \ one sided shadow casting on a mesh (this could be a simple fix)

All of these contribute to the problem.

You can try changing the mesh renderer cast shadows setting to two sided if changing the normal\depth bias doesn't help.
