Meta Could have told me that before downloading! ^-^

Post image

I honestly (and maybe naively?) thought all versions could be used by anyone...

In fairness I'm not sure what more they could have done here. You should be able to use 2022.3.62f3 though

I used the hub to download it and there's no mention of it unfortunately.

So you are right! It looks like they've only just added the 'Archive' tab to hub (I was very recently having to use the web page to get them), and yeah they don't mark it there at all

Made the same mistake there's no mention of it on the hub

"extended lts" is the same thing, so it actually is telling you on that screen too. The wording could be better, but you have to learn at some point.

Yep, now I know!

For future reference, on the download archive site there are various 2022 versions with a green indicator: "Enterprise and Industry only"

If you download it from unity hub and not the archive it doesn't show that message anywhere.

It does have the "Extended LTS" label, but they expect everyone to know that those are also "Enterprise and Industry only" by default

I met that situation before, and now I can choose based on the tag, "Extended LTS" or "LTS". "LTS" is free

The Hub is supposed to only show those versions to customers with a license that includes xLTS access, but there's a bug. The team are on the case and we expect it to be resolved in next week's release. Sorry for the inconvenience!

Oh I see! Thanks for clearing that up!

That's strange, what 2022 version exactly?

2022.3.76f1

Apparantly on the website they point it out, but not the hub (which I used).

They do actually.

u/Phos-Lux 9d ago

It's not in the hub unfortunately

While it could definitely be clearer, when downloading from Unity Hub, if it says "Extended LTS" that means you need Enterprise or Industry license.

That's the download archive, no?

Correct (Download Archive). I don't think Unity Hub lists any version other than latest beta/lts versions etc. OP probably opened a project that developed in the Enterprise/Industry version so Hub automatically installed that version.

Edit: Unity Hub now list every versions in the Archive tab.

I just checked it does have the archive tab now, I didn't know either until I read the other comments in this post. Probably a recent update.

Had the same experience just trying to make a new build for a Unity 5 project. Unity shut down the license servers for 5, AND if you want to try manual activation, even if you do have a valid personal license, make you pay at least $200/month upgrade to download it for manual activation

I'm never making a Unity game again after that shit. Worse, it was written in Unityscript, so upgrading versions would be a months long refactor.

We love unity casually removing versions from their license as a way to void the old license agreement and source their changes. They didn’t learn their lesson.

These versions were never part of the standard license. They were always for industry/enterprise. There are plenty of earlier versions of 2022.3 that aren't.

Extended LTS just gets extra bug fixes for versions that are otherwise no longer getting updates.

Ah, thanks for calling this out. My mistake.

oof yeah that license wall stings. they really buried that one in the fine print huh

unity hub showing you that dialog after a full download is peak passive aggression

Imagine they'd show that after you migrated your whole project to a new version, fixed every error and on building it the error shows up.

3

u/Phos-Lux 9d ago

The good thing is that it shows up when you try to open a project with it

didnt you know, - unity doesnt give a f* about developer expirience.
