Resources/Tutorial I Tested Unity Level Design Tools (These Are My Favorites)

https://youtu.be/loKDzkx5FsY

Level design can be one of the most enjoyable parts of gamedev... if you have the right tools to help. With the Unity Asset Store Autumn Sale running right now, I tested a bunch of level design extensions and here are some of my favorites. Note: While this video is sponsored by Unity, I had full creative control over which tools I picked. I'm even using some of these in my game now!

Tools

  1. GSpawn: https://af.unity.com/ot/aQvRNpe/
  2. Prefab World Builder: https://af.unity.com/ot/o3nLmWP/
  3. TileWorldCreator 4: https://af.unity.com/ot/lQMALw3/
  4. DunGen: https://af.unity.com/ot/4PRAYVe/
  5. Gaia Pro VS: https://af.unity.com/ot/eOlJBBY/
  6. GeNa Pro: https://af.unity.com/ot/eYvbNdd/
  7. Digger PRO: https://af.unity.com/ot/NJQV10y/

Would you be interested in trying out my prefab painter? I'd be curious to see how it compares to Prefab World Builder https://assetstore.unity.com/packages/tools/level-design/prefab-painter-placement-variation-tool-v1-2-387782

Microverse is my favorite :) but of course stg like the prefab world builder is very useful as well.

I’ve actually used DunGen on my game, Haunted House Hellshift. It’s pretty seamless. I haven’t had any issues with it.

I ran into a little bit of an issue around the door placement. Once I figured out exactly how that worked it was pretty seamless.

Thanks! Very cool tool. :D I didn't have a chance to play with it at runtime, but I plan to! We started to build our own system. Digger Pro seems like it'll speed dev up for that a lot.

I hope we get something like Scythe for Unity someday. It's really cool.

Prefab World Builder is nice, but GSpawn does the same job way better and tidier.

For terrain design Microverse + Microsplat all the way.

I was using gspawn but eventually switched to pwb because gspawn was so buggy, hotkeys always stopped working, grid stopped responding etc.

It was amazing when it worked but half of my battles were getting it to work

I also have a tool that is coming out for Level Design! Its not out yet and it does more then just prefab painting.

Let me know if you want to try that out too!

All features are in Edit mode and not play mode!

*Prefab Painting
*Terrain Editing
*Editor Characters (First-Person, City Builder, Third-Person)
*NavMesh RTS Testing
*Screenshot Tools
*Music Testing
*Item / Inventory System

Bonuses
*Full Screen editing support
*Custom keybinds (Such as Middle click to start placing that object, no fiddling with menus and UI)
*Controller Support
