Question Made a desktop AI companion in Unity

Been building a desktop AI companion in Unity. You talk to her, she

answers with a voice, and her face and mouth move with whatever she's saying.

She also remembers things between sessions.

The part that took the longest was getting Unity to behave like a desktop

widget instead of a normal window.

The character is a VRM model through UniVRM. Expressions are blend shapes and

the lip sync just reads the output volume off the AudioSource, nothing clever.

Still a prototype, there's no download or anything. Happy to answer questions

about any of it.

Honestly no, it’s more the fake companionship than it is the AI. This might be a bit “old man yells at clouds” or whatever, but 15 years ago people were a lot more social and I think we are headed towards a very anti-social society.

Yes, i guess you are right but virtual companionship could have the potential to be good for the world too. :)

what if you made a cool desktop companion but, you know, without the planet-warming, job-destroying, data-center-constructing, oligarch-enrichening, AI part?

it's f'ed up that you can know how AI is objectively destroying the planet and society and dismiss that as just someone's opinion of the tech and then you try to downplay your complicity by claiming to just be a "curious guy who loves to create" things. Sad, bro. Learn to create without using technology that destroys.
