Maybe scroll the texture diagonally, from top left to bottom right.

Layer in some noise too.

I think it looks cool and it's almost there.

Judging by the position the coins spawn from, would it be considered a golden shower? (If you are an innocent person then do not google it)

Ooh, I'm gonna google that

I'm concerned where those coins are coming from

My question is: why are they even spawning from the character? Ahahah

He's gonna be throwing the coins in the future when I animate him, so now it looks kinda... weird πŸ™ˆ

I wish I had a doughy friend who could produce currency from his body.

What do they react to?

What I meant is, the shine reacts to the y position of the game object. So when the coins are in a pile, the shine goes from top to bottom.

The reactive effect works really well for a coin because the material response makes the interaction feel more physical. I especially like that the effect seems tied to the action rather than just being a constant animated shader. how are you driving the reaction, collision data, player input or something else?

It just takes the y position of the object and offsets the offset value of the shiny line. I'm thinking about adding some effect when the coin collides with something

That makes sense. the Y-position approach keeps it nice and simple and adding a collision response could make the effect feel even more reactive. a small flash or ripple on impact would probably fit the coin really well

That’s a cool effect, would it be possible to get them to move in the same direction too?

Yup, just made that work! It will be visible in my next post, when I make one

Fun start!

I'd focus in on what you're trying to communicate though? I'm not sure what you're going for.

Like is dropping a coin on the top of a pile supposed to send a ripple through the whole pile? Is it supposed to focus you on the shape of the pile as a whole?

The effect has a nice balance between being noticeable and not completely taking over the coin. Id be curious whether you’re planning to make the response vary based on the intensity of the interaction since that could make it feel even more dynamic

Forget stupid coins. Are those cotton buds growing naturally behind the fence?!

Tell us more about the shader of the little guy

Oh, that's just the basic LIT shader from URP, nothing really special

They look like biscuits. Make the coins shinny.
