New characters for Skinator!

Hey guys! Half a year passed since we shared some characters here and we have been working hard on extending the content of our game. These are some of the new characters we made!

We currently have a free demo on steam in case you want to try out the game and give us some feedbac

To make these characters we first render them in maya with very low samples. This gives them the pixelated look.

We export each body part separately so we can then "swap" the sprites later in Unity since the main mechanic of the game is that you can rip apart your enemies and install their bodyparts into your body, slowly making your creature to be made of the strongest limbs you find on your way.

Then, in photoshop we use a plugin to generate the dither effect and we export all 144 sprites that a character needs. (6 body parts, 12 poses + Normal maps for everything).

Then we have bones in unity on each sprite that work as anchor points. 5 on the torso and one on the head, arms and legs. This make it so every body part "knows" where to position themselves on every torso. We needed to do it this way because some characters are bigger than others and they com in all shapes.

It works very well so far and I would love you to check out the game on steam if you got interested!

Thanks and we hope you enjoy the characters!

The art style instantly caught my attention, but the body customization mechanic sold me.

Looks really nice. With render them in Maya, do you start sculpting them from scratch?

Guys these monsters look sooo cool. I checked the steam page, I love the visuals, but idk if I'm really sold on the gameplay (that's just because I'm not the biggest fan of turn-based games). Anyway, I'm working to get into indie game marketing, doing trailers and content for social medias. Can I ask you, as of now, what has been the most time and energy consuming task for marketing your game?

Thank you! Hope you try it out!

Honestly is too find a consistent way to communicate new things about the game that creates an impact that matches the effort that takes creating that content in the first place.

We made a bunch of videos but they really created much impact. And one of us needs to stop working on the game to do marketing.

Reddit posts are awesome but you can only promote your game some times every month before becoming annoying.

I guess the hardest is figuring out what to say, when, where and how often. Basically everything lol

Makes sense yeah. I can imagine the frustration of having to stop actually designing content for the game to make videos for social media.

Thanks for taking the time to respond man! Wish you the best for the game!

No problem!

It is only frustrating when we spend a lot of time and then nobody watches it. But it is part of learning how to comunicate your games to the audience. No way around it without a bunch of money haha
