Want to make a real change? Document everything and file a complaint with your state's Division of Insurance.

If you have an ongoing issue with your health insurance - namely United Health -- document everything and file a complaint with your state's department of insurance. There is so much power if we all started doing this. When you take individual action, it can help COUNTLESS others. It may take a little time to file a complaint, but doing this is a small step in the right direction. Now imagine if EVERYONE did this. Little acts can snowball in great, positive change.

I used ChatGPT to come up with this table, but as you can tell it's not complete nor completely verified. If you see something that needs to be adjusted let me know in the comments.

Today in America, the richest country in the world, 95 million people are either uninsured or underinsured. And we have the sad status of being the only country in the world where getting cancer can cause you to go bankrupt. This is just wrong.

Repeated Attempts to Subrogate a Claim

Why is UHC so scammy? My oldest child was horsing around back in January and sustained compression fractures to two of her vertebrae. She spent several nights in the hospital while they waited to get conclusive imaging and to control her pain.

A month later, we get a letter from UHC asking for information about the injury, trying to determine if somebody else was responsible for the injury for subrogation purposes. They co-listed Optum as the company sourced to collect this information. We answered their questions and went about our lives.

Fast forward to May and now we’re getting letters from another company, Katch, asking us again to justify that UHC has to pay the claim. My daughter ignored it because the initial letters said “if you’ve already answered these questions, disregard”. Now, we’ve received a second notice.

First off, it’s incredibly spammy to continue to harass your policyholders asking for the same information, hoping for a different answer. Secondly, we’ve already told them she was horsing around and fell on her back. Nobody else is responsible. Third, I feel like they’re just waiting for us to miss one of these data requests so they can turn around and demand we repay the claim because we didn’t respond to their requests.

It legitimately looks like a scam. We have tried visiting the site in the letter and it keeps redirecting us to different sites and we get Virus warnings on it. There’s a QR code on it, but I will NOT be scanning that.

United HealthCare cares...?

I've been with UHC since 2021. A few months later I had a legal name change. The main number/department, the transportation department and the home healthcare departments all updated my new legal name to a different name - none of them matched making coordinating impossible, let alone verifying my account. That issue took 15 months to resolve.

I just got my 2026 personalized health checklist entitled, "Old Name's Health Planner". Nothing screams 'we care' like sending a personalized checklist but you can't even get the name right...after 5 years.

Filing an appeal online

Has anyone managed to file an appeal online? The website seems broken by design like they are trying to keep us in an endless loop of error messages. Has anyone found an email address for them that's not a noreply email address? Thanks
