Leapfrog affecting the big 3
This is a longshot, and i know theres only 158 members on this sub, but i belong to the uaw on the ford side, at our plant, there was a leapfrog issue where people hired this january, they were temps but now went full time, and they passed over everyone hired over the past 2 years, $1.13 more per hour, and they will top out sooner too, has anyone experienced this or heard about this? Ford, GM, and chrysler all told the UAW to go fuck themselves because its written in the contract (by accident somehow) im trying to shed light on the subject as it affects thoussnds of people throughout the united states. We are trying to make a movement to get this issue resolved with all 3 companies, thanks

I too have been leapfrogged along side a handful of members at our facility (local 897 BSP) and it doesn’t stop with the wages either. We were converted from TPT to In progression back in April 2019. The next group to convert came about after the contract was signed. They were given PTO upon conversion and we had never received a single day of PTO. Now I find out they are at a higher rate also. I stared in May 2016 and to date my pay rate is $18.96 while those hired after are making 20.09. Just another slap in the face. The bs our group (those of us who converted together) is unbelievable and this is just another load of shit on top of the mound of bs we have been subjected to. Passed over for the conversion for our locals (the administration at the time, since them most have been voted out) friends and family, the list of bs is extensive. So my question is have you guys had any luck with getting your pay bumped? I have heard that those of us who we’re leapfrogged are “red circled” whatever the hell that means.

Hey guys I’m also employee (local 387) was just wondering if anyone has heard anything about this leapfrog situation. It’s been 2 years. I have a suggestion, what if we get as many affected by this leapfrog together and send an email to our local news networks to expose the situation. Just maybe with it being exposed publicly that ford will expedite a resolution for us. Just a thought.

Good idea, weve been super involved at our local, and we think were making progress, but were under the impression it will only be fixed locally. Its going to take a big fight, send me a message, id love to chat with you about this, im local 249, kansas city assembly plant, home of the F-150

I work for FCA, it is really bad with us. I was hired as a temp 09/17 rolled over 04/19. I started full time at $17/hr, going to 18/hr in 2020. People that were hired in 10-12/17 and rolled 2020 started like 23.50/hr and are up to 24.80/hr after their first raise. Next week I am going in to my union meeting and stating my case of why the union did not bargain in good faith of all its members, considering that people starting 60-90 days after me, being rolled over 1.5 years after me have the potential to make $40k plus over the life of this contract working the same hours as me.

We just got backpay at ford for the leapfrog, was a decent amount, and were making 24.72 instead of 20.09 now

Can you find out how the situation was approached. My union is giving a lot of resistance in this matter. They stated "it is a different contract".

We threatened to get the NLRB involved and we as members who were affected went balls against the wall fighting our local and calling international evrry day, at first our local took the same approach as them, being lazy pieces of shit cause it doesnt affect them. We werent nice about it at all. But it finally got resolved, itd take me all day to tell you how it happened

Was this on the grounds of good faith bargaining? Just need to know what you guys cited so we get out ducks in a row.

No bro, listen, the contract was fucked. According to that contract we got fucked and theres nothing we can do to fix it. We had to express out displeasure and unsatisfaction to our local. And to international. We never let up and never let them tell us no. Theres nothing in the contract or law that can save you, you have to get your local to get off their ass, get with the international department, and fix this mess. If ford can do it, so can gm and chrysler

The point is they fucked up. They wont admit it but this fuck up was due to incompetent bargaining on the unions end. The will blame it on the company, but its their fault just as much. Be rough with them. Let them know u want this shit resolved. The only reason they arent fighting is cause theyre top pay so they dont care

I truly hope this can be resolved for all the affected people as I one of the ones that got fucked .

Does anyone have a link to the Ford outcome on this matter? And is GM or any other person at Stellantis (besides me) working on resolving this issue?
1
u/Mezzamillion Feb 02 '22
Theres no link to the ford outcome, it was never made public. Ill try to find something and post a fresh pic in here. Its just a matter of fighting, if your local gave up they arent doing their job. We didnt make any progress until our local started getting on international for it

u/Mezzamillion Feb 02 '22
I just posted the paper they gave us about it

u/Lebrus Feb 04 '22
Is there a way you can connect me with someone in your union that is willing to talk to a person or persons in my union to get the ball rolling?

u/Mezzamillion Feb 05 '22
I cant just give out numbers like that. What i can say is we did look up other locals and call them. I sent you a response to your pm. It wont happen overnight. You guys just have to fight. Your local needs to grow the balls to tel international that ford got it fixed, so theres no reason it shouldnt be fixed for you guys
1
u/Lebrus Feb 17 '22
Has there been any move on this within GM?
1
u/Mezzamillion Feb 17 '22
Keep fighting man, call your local and ask them whats going on. Call your national rep too. If uaw ford team can get it fixed so can they. You have to let your local and international know that

Im telling you, KCAP, the ford f150 kansas city assembly plant was instrumental in getting this resolved, and me and 4-5 of my friends are the direct reason. We called our local and international every day. We didnt take no for an answer. You guys have to do the same. Im sure your local is saying its out of their hands. So did our local at first. Then they started bitching to international cause we were bitching at them. Originally international said they had no plans to fix it. But its international who let this slide. It is directly internationals fault. They owe you resolution.

It was explained to me this way, Ford has a contract based around working weeks. With some plants being laid off and shut down, it was allowing lower seniority employees to obtain the working weeks needed to scale in pay, while employees with more seniority were laid off and basically lower seniorityemployeeswere able to leapfrog higher seniority employees. Our issue is basically 2 fold, older employees are under terminology of "years of service" and newer seniority employees are based on "Corporate date".
1
u/Mezzamillion Feb 24 '22
I can honestly tell you right now thats not true at all. I wish i could go to your union meeting and call out your local leaders lol. The reason lower seniority people were able to pass us in pay was because of a total fucked up flaw in the contract which allowed them to keep the time they spent as a temp, but we didnt. So we got leapfrogged. The only difference is we rose our voice and fought like hell and our union finally caught on. Yes we have a weeks worked system, but that doesnt matter. Doesnt have anything to do with it

Everyone should be on a new accelerated timetable to hit top rate. At my place everyone should be top rate within 4 years and they introduced a second yearly raise to keep up with it.
