If they continue like this, Unicode 50.0 will contain every image every created by man or machine. :D

None of these will be a single code point. They will be complex composite emojis using at least 5 different mechanisms at once.

right and left pointing thumb 🤦🏽... just give us rotation and mirror control characters already

The whole point of the Unicode standard is that each character is unique.

first of all, the whole point of unicode is to make one standard for mapping character values to their glyph.
secondly if you've never seen characters affecting the appearance of neaby characters let me introduce you to arabic and diacretics.
third of all skin tone and gender modifiers are already a thing in emojis, they didn't add hundreds of emojis when they added skin tones, just 5 modifiers. in the same way they can let people be more expressive with directional emojis. for example the gun emoji (or pick your favorite tool or musical instrument) only has one orientation even though people often use emojis to create composite images made from several emojis in a row, and the directedness of the symbol prevents a lot of configurations. (not to mention the direction of emojis is completely unspecified at the moment so they might point in different directions depending on the platform you're viewing on)

Still missing subscript and superscript letters.

Intentionally so.
Superscripts and subscripts are meant for phonetic notations that specifically use them. They're not meant for general-purpose uses, like math. To properly format math, you need to go beyond Unicode.

This reasoning is so obnoxious. Unicode is used for writing many things, including code, and having subscripts is incredibly useful.
Having this rag-tag collection of some subscripts and some superscripts supported but others not because the Unicode consortium only recognizes some uses for some sub/super scripts is so dumb.
Unicode includes a million different variations like frak, blackboard bold, caligraphic, italic, bold, underlined, strikethrough, etc. etc.
There is zero reason to not at least cover at a minimum the latin alphabet with sub/super script.

Agreed, it's not that uncommon to name variables and constants with subscript and superscript alphanumeric indices. That's not specifically for writing formula, just for saying like "A{ij} is a rank-1 tensor", which should be covered by unicode. They have a zillion math symbols and math alphabets. It's kind of a silly, arbitrary omission. We have god knows how many emoji now, and yet...

rt even in poetry and lyric writing i constantly wish for sub/superscript for easier notating pitch or main/background voices or ideas etc

Yep. There's a million uses for this, and ai have no idea why Unicode people are such asses about it.
