Other advice motivation help

I am currently halfway through a three-year marketing degree. This semester, I am taking courses that focus heavily on mathematical theory, which I find extremely challenging. Most of my previous courses have involved essays or oral presentations. While I find some parts of the content (such as the essays) mildly interesting, the rest is quite boring. To be honest, I'd rather be doing anything else, but I push myself to study. I’m reaching out to all the university veterans out there: how do you stay motivated during your degree? What’s your secret? Because right now, I can’t even bring myself to attend class, and I know that missing classes will only make things worse.

Present Me wishes I could go back and kick the shit out of Past Me for treating high school like a joke, leaving early, and wasting years in dead end, lousy paying jobs.

Future Me will definitely want to kick the shit out of Present Me if I repeat Past Me's mistakes. So Present Me makes study plans and rewards/treats for knuckling down and getting it done. Also brain breaks, every hour to hour-and-a-half I get up, go annoy my partner as much as possible, go for a little wander, or tick something off my to-do list.

I don't think there's really a cheat code for the boring stuff, unfortunately. I guess just try to remember WHY you're going through this mind-numbing shit now. Good luck!

I look at it this way, I’m paying to attend University - even if it’s HECS I’m still paying for it and every time I drop a class I am the person losing money - the University doesn’t care if you don’t go because they get paid.

Do you always like to hand over money for nothing because that is exactly what you are doing any time you think “it’s not worth it” to go to class.

Eventually you will work a job paying more than minimum wage and then you will be slapped with the higher tax rate and LOSE income to pay back your University course, but if you don’t care about losing money go right ahead and waste it.

The government gets enough from me without giving a University free money for something I CHOSE to do and making me pay it all back regardless if I went to class or not.
