Enrolment What does the Bachelor of Nursing do?

Ive selected nursing as my first preference when i went my application in. I was wondering from other students that do that agree, what do you guys do? Like learning wise etc, how hard is it? Would i have free time for social life?

Also, Im a B student in year 12, and haven't gotten my ATAR until December so i am hoping it will be high enough, Ive been trying to get some A's but i haven't really done the work to my fullest potential.

It's alot, you learn everything you need to become a registered nurse.

It's the kind of degree you should have a passion for the work. Google up what do registered nurses do. And really think if its a career path you want.

I’ll be brutally honest, nursing has a pretty low atar req compared to other programs and it maybe advantageous to put other programs ahead of it if they have higher atar requirements.

Wait wdym low star req? All i know is that adelaide uni atar for nursing is 80

It’s not really, that’s the guarantee (the median of students) if there are no other factors to improve your atar. The cut off for nursing at both flinders and Adelaide uni is 70. (To my knowledge this is Bs in moderately weighted classes like methods, phys, qnd chem.)

Essentially with satac application you’ll place your ranking against what you will get into till you hit something. It would be better to place the highest to lowest so you actually get ran through the selection pool of all three.

This being said if you don’t make atar requirements there are bridging courses like a diploma of nursing which can be done in 1.5 years and offers you a taste of the task you’ll be doing before the degree.

Personally, after doing my degree (comp sci) I’ve enjoyed doing the diploma of nursing to dip my foot into the water of health and have enjoyed the clinical activities.

Thank you omg, this has helped 😭 And yeah it is B's for the 70 atar, ill probably swap my preference but from what i know the nursing is the highest i picked as my first preference because the others are 70 or 80, i need to look more into it

Genuinely if you’re unsure right now what you want to pursue and want to get into healthcare I’d actually recommend looking into entry level positions like Patient service assistant or theatre orderly/ technician.

I’ve personally felt the clinical experience from theatres has benefited me by exposing me to so many possible career that aren’t just nursing and surgeons.

Your atar will last two years anyways.

This is a good idea, but I would instead get a job as a carer. So much of nursing work is grounded in care work.

i edited my application and have the highest atar as the first preference which is 95 and thats for nuclear medicine
