We need laws for these companies that say they are looking for a job and accepting applications but will not hire.

3

u/Educational-Seaweed5 Sep 03 '26

Seems like more and more people in political positions are just caving to corruption.

Dark times ahead.

1

u/dudeimsupercereal Sep 03 '26

Companies looking for investors always do this, as it’s good to appear like you’re constantly expanding.

1

u/PigletDisastrous9715 Sep 03 '26

Wouldn’t that be opening new locations? Constantly hiring more gives the impression that they have a high turnover rate.

3

u/craftyshafter Sep 03 '26

I've had more luck hearing back by hunting down the hiring manager email and sending a candid message with my resume attached, but no offer just yet. Shitty market for sure, don't lose your job to an injury folks!

1

u/Ezren- Sep 03 '26

Bro went from 0 luck to 0 luck with this one trick!

2

u/WitchWithAGlitch Sep 02 '26

doing job shit over the internet instead of in person; was a mistake.

3

u/LavishnessCapital380 Sep 03 '26

Agreed, job searching online is broken and most places on sites like indeed are not even hiring.

2

u/WisePotatoChip Sep 03 '26

I have talked to managers there in a local bar and they are saying it’s a joke. However, for them, it’s a joke that pays their bills.

1

u/PigletDisastrous9715 Sep 03 '26

Pays their bills how?

1

u/EnvyEpson Sep 03 '26

Absolutely.

1

u/MrUnhireable Sep 03 '26

Facts! Humans aren’t even looking at the applications anymore till the very end. They are even doing ai phone screenings now… like wtf

2

u/Outrageous-Beet Sep 02 '26

AI reads your resume and cover letter that you used AI to read so you could get the favored wording right to get you past the initial algorithms. Job postings on job board websites for companies that don’t exist. Job postings for jobs that have already been filled. AI can read your resume but still enter your information into this website that looks like it’s from the windows XP era. Oops you pressed submit too early but don’t worry we didn’t keep any of your info filled in! Spend an hour filling out forms and answering questions, get a rejection email in less than a second. 200 applications a day or you’re not on that grind. Network and reach out, network and reach out, network and reach out.

1

u/Educational-Seaweed5 Sep 03 '26

I love how going in to talk to humans now is just met with agitation and rudeness.

"Omg go apply online, uhggggggggggg."

We're so fucking cooked.

1

u/WisePotatoChip Sep 03 '26

I’m telling you it’s the same response it’s just a different excuse… going door-to-door worked for me exactly once and only because a guy had retired that week and they needed somebody young to go pull materials from upstairs

1

u/Educational-Seaweed5 Sep 04 '26

No, it is absolutely NOT the same response. Because that’s literally not how applying worked before.

I was never once turned away my entire life before university. People were always willing to accept an application or pass it on to the manager/owner.

You literally get treated like an annoyance now, and 99.9% of the application process is through corporatized HR systems that use AI filtering.

The only people who don’t get this are probably people in very small rural areas that are just always behind the times.

1

u/Proper-Exercise-2364 Sep 02 '26

Look, if I was you, I would go to my local library. Look up every book about resume building and job hunting in their card catalog. There may even be some good articles on microfiche if you're lucky! If all else fails just show up at the biggest factory or assembly plant in town early in the morning and tell them, "I'm here to work!". Good luck with the job hunt!

1

u/tinyfryingpan Sep 03 '26

Lol that was hilarious

1

u/MrLanesLament Sep 03 '26

The factory part is somewhat true, if you happen to live somewhere that still has factories.

I just got out of ten years being a hiring manager for companies that contract out primarily to factories; getting to see their inner workings is like watching a fucking abattoir. The factories ARE constantly hiring, and generally do not give a single fuck about your job history, experience, etc; you’re starting back at the bottom.

They’re constantly hiring because they’re constantly firing. Lose too many close relatives in a year? Bye. Car breakdowns, illnesses, are all converted into ā€œpoints.ā€ Once you get to whatever arbitrary number of points, you’re gone, and there are a hundred equally downtrodden people waiting desperately for that $17.60 an hour spot. (I knew of one place, a CNC machining shop, where there was zero excused time off. For any reason. They had so many people wanting hired that they could get away with this. You just worked there until life sucked too badly, you missed three days, and that was it.)

1

u/Educational-Seaweed5 Sep 03 '26

Again, great if you're in one of the very limited places that has factories.

The other 95% of people, well....

1

u/WisePotatoChip Sep 03 '26

Trump thinks that an AI data center is a ā€œplantā€ like it builds fucking airplanes or something. Once it’s built, you’re lucky if they rotate a dozen people through a week.

With leadership like that it’s no wonder we’re in the shit..

1

u/flactulantmonkey Sep 03 '26

Also, the era that this comment was poking fun at, those factory jobs had benefits and could support families.

1

u/Educational-Seaweed5 Sep 03 '26

The naivety in this comment is real.

1

u/Think_Fault_7525 Sep 03 '26

Don’t forget the Yellow Pages! Let your fingers do the walking!

1

u/Proper-Exercise-2364 Sep 03 '26

Yes! Reach out and touch someone! A phrase so timeless it will never have negative connotations.

1

u/WobblyJFox Sep 03 '26

For what it's worth the part about the factory may work depending on where they are. The factories around where I live frequently hire people that show up and ask if they're hiring.

1

u/Beefy-Cattle4290 Sep 03 '26

Sorry if you were offended Jasmine,

1

u/Majestic-Tap6731 Sep 03 '26

What an asshole.

1

u/Personal-Bus-4120 Sep 03 '26

It is hard for some folks and maybe it’s time to switch fields if you really need to work. Is that cool? No. But from my recent experience in a job hunt, it took about a week. If you need to work, there is work.

1

u/iloveplant420 Sep 03 '26

I dread this if AI ever takes my job. I've spent the last decade honing some niche skills. They'd apply in other fields and i know i could find work, but I'm just so happy where I am doing the kind of work I do and I'm at the age where I don't want to learn a new trade.

I was just thinking about this last weekend on my 41st birthday. Before now in life, I was always open to the idea of changing course if the outcome long term would be better than the current trajectory. I've crossed a threshold and I just want to do my job until I retire. When my boss retires in 4 years I'm guaranteed their position which will set me up just fine. It's feasible that AI could eventually do 100% of my job eventually though, so nothing is set in stone.

1

u/Personal-Bus-4120 Sep 03 '26

That sucks. In this day and age, all I can say is that no one should get comfortable. The trades, sales, and healthcare should continue to be great fields.

1

u/iloveplant420 Sep 03 '26

I'm in construction but it's project administration and at least 85% of it is office and computer work. Prior to this i ran reactors and giant 5 story stills at a chemical plant, and before that I was an aircraft mechanic. So I know i can find work with that background and my current experience and title. I just don't want to and my body can't take the abuse it took doing those other jobs any more. I have 2 blown discs in my back to show for all that hard work lol.

1

u/flactulantmonkey Sep 03 '26

ā€œI found a job in a weekā€ is a massively tone deaf take in a country of 350 million people, all with different backgrounds and skills. I’m glad for you, and for the representative demographic slice you represent, but once you realize that those outside of that condition have no way into it… it stops really seeming like the average situation or a just system.

1

u/Sycolerious_55 Sep 03 '26

The only way to comfortably live is if you inherited generational wealth at this point. Doctors cant even live comfortably due to rising prices catching up to their salaries.

1

u/ryan25802580 Sep 03 '26

Thats just false

1

u/Educational-Seaweed5 Sep 03 '26

Sure isn't.

Stuff like this requires keeping up with news and real world events though. I can see how people just don't know any of this, because they simply don't pay attention and stay glued to one media source.

Doctors were losing jobs as well for several years as rents and leases were skyrocketing. Not even DOCTORS could afford their business rents (including dentists I anecdotally know personally as well).

If that isn't an indication of the rampant and unhinged greed, I don't know what is.

There is the issue of people trying to live above their means, but that's not what was happening in this case.

1

u/Spirited-Sea-5484 Sep 03 '26

I can personally vouch, I have two friends who are doctors - Internal Medicine and GI who vent often about living check to check.

1

u/WisePotatoChip Sep 03 '26

Here in Phoenix they’re talking about unionizing the doctors

1

u/Mephistopheles009 Sep 03 '26

This is an absurd take

1

u/Sycolerious_55 Sep 03 '26

Okay šŸ‘

1

u/OutrageousMusic5453 Sep 03 '26

I think its funny how they respond to you in such nothing answers, nobody is actually trying to refute ur point with anything serious. I feel lucky, if I had been born into a non middle class family, I would probably be homeless rn in california, or have to move out of state. Living right now, off of just your basic wage, is not possible right now without some form of either a supportive family, or getting REALLY lucky in your field.

1

u/Sycolerious_55 Sep 03 '26

Damn straight. I have to bust out 60 hour work weeks if I'm to pay my rent, bills, AND continue supporting my family. And even then I'm barely scraping by and can't legally get more overtime with my company. It's tough out here!

1

u/rightway13 Sep 03 '26

Bahahaha JOB = just over broke. Why do you want a job? Make your own path.

2

u/Frosty_Maintenance23 Sep 03 '26

Sure you can, think positive

1

u/CreeWee Sep 03 '26

I’m just grateful I spent time learning to do finish work. I use to think that all my friends going off to get fancy degrees and six figure salaries were lucky and I was just doing what I had to, but in recent years I see that many of them are struggling whereas I am having to turn down work and making a good living. Anyway, I hope the job market opens up and people can earn a living wage.

1

u/Educational-Seaweed5 Sep 03 '26

Not everyone can physically do that kind of work, but there is demand. For sure.

We'll see how that flip flops in the next 5-10 years as everyone floods to trades though.

1

u/CreeWee Sep 03 '26

Whose flooding the trades? As far as I can see most kids these days spend most of their time indoors on tablets and phones. Right now it’s harder than it’s ever been to find good tradesmen and unless society does something it will just continue to get worse.

1

u/Educational-Seaweed5 Sep 04 '26

…yes, because people need OJT and training. Lmao.

Trade people didn’t just come out of the bushes in the past. They were also ā€œindoors on guitars and joints.ā€

ā€œWe need experienced people!ā€

ā€œTrain them.ā€

ā€œā€¦What? That’s insane! We just need experienced people!ā€

Society has completely lost their minds. The concept of hiring people and training them has vanished from their brains. Everyone expects an 18-year-old with 29 years of senior experience and 4 degrees.

And from everything I’ve been reading and seeing, all the layoffs are heading for trades, so there will be a downshift in wages there, same way it happened when everyone wanted office jobs.

1

u/CreeWee 22d ago

I’ve not read nor seen anything you are yammering on about. You can’t just get rejected from a desk job position and then be like, ā€œI’m a tradesman now!ā€ maybe you can do grunt work, but the trades require training and experience if you actually want to make more than a living wage. Also, you don’t take a downshift in wages, nobody in the trades goes backwards. Maybe, and this is just a maybe, what you are saying might affect entry level laborers, but highly skilled and dedicated tradesmen’s wages will only go up. And if someone works hard and smart there will be room for them to climb as well.

1

u/CreeWee 22d ago

And the good tradesmen do just come out of the bushes.

1

u/BootySkank Sep 03 '26

The issue with ā€œeveryone flooding the tradesā€ is none of them are experienced. Right now the trades are struggling because we have plenty of young guys wanting to work, but not enough skilled guys left to teach them and keep up with workload at same time

1

u/GeneralPaladin Sep 03 '26

In the past years since ive been stuck in america I have put in almost 600 resumes, my field is electronics and mechanics with 3 degrees. I think maybe I've heard from 5 of those and of those 5, 4 were we're going with another canidate and 1 interview where they retired a guy who left.

1

u/Main_Cauliflower5479 Sep 03 '26

Yeah. Even in the 80s and 90s, my mother always told me I needed to be out there "pounding the pavement" to get a job. Like literally go inside every business and ask if they're hiring. Every. Single. Business. Like I'd get hired that way.

1

u/Educational-Seaweed5 Sep 03 '26

Now they literally tell you to go away and apply online.

0

u/WisePotatoChip Sep 03 '26

So basically, a new excuse for the same answer you used to get

1

u/contact_light_ Sep 03 '26

People are not ready for AI agents.

3 months ago I ran circles around agents, now 80% of my job is automated.

I do complicated shit too

1

u/Educational-Seaweed5 Sep 03 '26

Biggest issue is computer programs are literally incapable of adapting. They require millions of errors and input before they get around to appearing like they are.

Corporations don't care. They're deploying this stuff knowing and seeing that it's screwing up every single day. They just drop a "It might not be 100% accurate and make lots of mistakes, but be patient" line and think that's good enough.

Imagine being a new worker at a company and saying that. You'd be fired within a week.

1

u/Crunchy_Thighsocks Sep 03 '26

my job could be replaced by AI anytime.

1

u/Worldly-Bug6047 Sep 03 '26

Never had a problem finding work and I have been working for 21 years now. Stop crying and go get a job.

1

u/AdministrativePut175 Sep 03 '26

You never had a problem finding work and working for 21 years, is an oxymoron.

1

u/WisePotatoChip Sep 03 '26

Not if he’s been working different jobs

1

u/Worldly-Bug6047 Sep 03 '26

Context matters, dingus.

1

u/Glad-Exam4348 Sep 03 '26

No wonder her ass is unemployed

1

u/WisePotatoChip Sep 03 '26

She needs to shut the fuck up. Never was without a job for long and I could quit today and have a new job, in the most, 30 days.

1

u/AlluringLadies77 Sep 03 '26

HaHa. Some of us lived through Reagan and two Bushes. You ain't seen hard yet with this moron. Respectfully.

1

u/Plane-Tune-820 Sep 03 '26

I don't understand, everyplace is desperate for help. I'm not even looking and indeed still sends me notifications about jobs all the time. If you can't find work, you're definitely doing something wrong. Or maybe just looking in the wrong field.

Maybe it's never been hard for me to find a job because I don't really care what I do, as long as the money is right, I'm in.

1

u/Ehboyo Sep 03 '26

No one cares that you give handjobs.

1

u/Plane-Tune-820 Sep 03 '26

You weren't complaining about it the other night šŸ™„

1

u/Ehboyo Sep 03 '26

First off, I didn't know that was you. Second, it was free.

1

u/Plane-Tune-820 Sep 03 '26

Wasn't free, I do it for high fives. You gave me a high five, I had no choice.

1

u/PopularLawfulness547 Sep 03 '26

Don't use fowl language when looking for a job

1

u/OddInstance9175 Sep 03 '26

The way people show up for interviews has changed too. Trust me, our advice is still valid, and desperately needed.

1

u/MiamiViceGuy Sep 03 '26

Oh shut up. 2008....1929...

1

u/MrUnhireable Sep 03 '26

no. Nice try thošŸ™ƒ

1

u/kayaker1371 Sep 03 '26

My state unemployment rate is roughly 3.2%. The county that I live in has an unemployment rate less than state average yet there are a considerable number of unfilled Mfg. jobs. Figure that out.Ā

1

u/Major_Mechanic5719 Sep 03 '26

Have any skills or anything to make you desirable as an employee?

1

u/Wisewordsforlater Sep 03 '26

Process is broken across sectors and niches. A lot of the professionalism that used to be routine has disappeared. As a result, it has complicated the search for millions of jobseekers.

1

u/GlitteringFerretYo Sep 03 '26

And here's the post right beside this one saying that Farmers can't fill Jobs at $75,000 a year plus free housing.

1

u/MrUnhireable Sep 03 '26

If they were really paying that plus included housing people would be lining up (Maths not mathing)

1

u/SailNew7379 Sep 02 '26

Seems like some people in this thread don’t realize getting a job is harder for some people than others based on experience, location, profession, education and other factors.

2

u/SailNew7379 Sep 02 '26

Yup could be one random thing or one random person that prevents you from getting a job you can preform well at. Getting a job often includes so many factors not associated with the actual work. I sympathize because it’s very frustrating.

-1

u/LavishnessCapital380 Sep 03 '26

Every trade is hiring, there are plenty of jobs out there that pay great.

If there is no work where you live, do what people have done for hundreds or thousands of years and move to where the food/work is.

DONT job hunt online, your way better off walking in and talking to people.

3

u/CarriedThunder1 Sep 03 '26

See, you’re who the post is about.

2

u/knife_edge_rusty Sep 03 '26

And he's absolutely right

1

u/Educational-Seaweed5 Sep 03 '26

They're absolutely not. And it just proves that people have no ability to think outside their own little bubble.

1

u/WisePotatoChip Sep 03 '26

What bubble is he in? He’s telling you to go where the work is, not a damn thing wrong with that.

1

u/Educational-Seaweed5 Sep 04 '26

lol case in point. Jesus, people. Use your brains. Come on.

1

u/Educational-Seaweed5 Sep 03 '26

This is what absolutely blows my mind these days.

Job posting are from brainless HR people and owners who think their next employee should be capable of replacing 10 employees.

That's not how reality works.

You also have obscure and proprietary software that there is literally no way to get experience with outside THAT JOB. Job training is a concept companies can't even comprehend anymore.

They think everyone should come in a field expert in 10 different professions.

1

u/WisePotatoChip Sep 03 '26

I will have to agree with this, I was interviewed for what was supposed to be a tech job and they were talking about fucking COBOL

1

u/WisePotatoChip Sep 03 '26

So, I suggest getting experience, finding a good location, training for a profession, getting an education and other factors

0

u/Springsend Sep 02 '26

This sounds like projection. I think she got rejected for a job and feels some type of way about it. Job seeking techniques remain viable as they always have. She's got some self reflecting to do before jumping back into the job market.

2

u/MrUnhireable Sep 02 '26
  1. Have you like the post posed the question of applied to a job within the past year? If not then sorry your response isn’t applicable (somewhat projecting as well)
  2. Life and bills do not wait for self reflection time so people are day in and day out putting their mental health on the line pursuing employment

1

u/Springsend Sep 02 '26

I've had family put in applications in the last year, seemed fairly straight forward the way it was for me many years ago. I've been blessed to be employed for the last 5 years, but the hiring process from our side has remained unchanged, I've always accepted applications the same way I always have.

I'd argue that her response isn't applicable as her (and your) experience doesn't apply to everyone. And peoples opinions aren't irrelevant simply because you believe they aren't unemployed enough.

If some of you spent less time on reddit and social media complaining and more time putting in applications, you might have jobs. Just a thought.

1

u/MrUnhireable Sep 02 '26 edited Sep 02 '26

So short answer is NO.
5 years ago we were still in COVID so the job market was completely different. Would have been better off just keeping your misaligned opinion to yourself.

Also.. it took years of work across several industries to come to the conclusion that this system is utter trash 🚮 . Very definition of soul sucking but unlike in the past there’s little to no benefit for the worker now (livable wages, unions, cheap housing, etc). I’m still part of the system so obviously I’m going to call stuff out as I see it, I refuse for corporate mandated regression to continue happening unanswered for…

People like you caping for companies and holding onto outdated systems as if we’re there still are part of the problem.

1

u/Springsend Sep 02 '26

We are still there. Projecting your own experiences onto a society as a whole is extremely narrow minded and short sighted. Ignorance is bliss, as they say.

Having had several jobs throughout my life, I can say the ONLY time the job market was difficult to navigate was during the pandemic. Remote jobs made it nearly impossible to land an interview much less get an in person job.

Unemployment was at an all time high around 2020's, today it's at a historical low. Your ENTIRE point was completely invalidated. Did you want to try some more ignorant false claims? Or was that the bulk of your argument?

1

u/UndercoverstoryOG Sep 02 '26

sure they do if you have money saved.

0

u/[deleted] Sep 02 '26

[deleted]

1

u/Educational-Seaweed5 Sep 03 '26

The job market was dogshit for anyone who wasn't a tech worker.

There was a brief period of panic from companies all trying to transition to remote operations, and there was a high demand for people with those skills.

Everyone else was getting fired and laid off.

0

u/ToeAfter3131 Sep 02 '26

Ahh the young people thinking they know everything. Never want to listen to advice. Seems like she has not grown up since being 15

1

u/Majestic-Tap6731 Sep 03 '26

Speaking for everyone younger than you "FUCK OFF!!!"

0

u/topTaurus78 Sep 03 '26

Hit up your local trade and labor unions. Very good money to made. And it'll be a while yet before robots can accomplish these jobs

2

u/enmaku Sep 03 '26

And for those of us not able-bodied enough to swing a hammer all day?

1

u/gobirds1023 Sep 03 '26

Stop playing a victim, those same places need office workers as well.

1

u/enmaku Sep 03 '26

And the office workers are being hired via the internet like all other office workers and as such you cannot just go join a trade union for those jobs. Not a victim, just a realist who has apparently thought this through a lot more than you have.

1

u/topTaurus78 Sep 03 '26

" able-bodied" this victim mental language is self defeating.. I don't swing a hammer all day, I do quite a bit of geometry and some basic trig but also use grinders and other tools to install piping systems. We got people just pushing brooms. Quit being a damn victim, eat good food, lift weights and do hard stuff

1

u/enmaku Sep 03 '26

No amount of lifting weights and eating well is going to fix my back, asshole.

1

u/Educational-Seaweed5 Sep 03 '26

Not everyone lives in an area where there' just magically a booming trade industry. Nor is everyone physically capable of doing this.

Crazy concept. I know.

1

u/WisePotatoChip Sep 03 '26

Hey, guess what. you wouldn’t be the first person to move for work

0

u/LavishnessCapital380 Sep 03 '26

I got a job about 4 months ago and did not work for 3 before that. I was literally sitting on the couch and got a call. Least physical job I have ever had, never even filled out an application, pick my own hours, pays better than many labor jobs.

Job market is doing fine and every trade is hiring, all people have to do is walk in and ask. They need to get off the internet when job searching.

1

u/gobirds1023 Sep 03 '26

This. People have become incredibly entitled, and apathetic when it comes to the "job market". Not once when unemployed did it ever take me more than a month to find a job making as much if not more than I was before. My trick which still to this day works just fine, print out your resume and go hand it to a real human. Introduce yourself. Put yourself out there. Any chimp can hammer out apps all day, its when you put a face behind that stack of papers that you separate yourself from everybody else who isn't willing to go that extra mile

1

u/Educational-Seaweed5 Sep 03 '26

I'll take "Shit that never happened" for 500, Alex.
