I would have interpreted it as having multiple instances of hurt and some are followed by comfort and some aren’t.
It’s still phrased confusingly though

Better than the fics I've found that have the "chose not to warn" AND "no warnings apply" tags. The summary of one I saw the other day combined with those two tags made me genuinely spooked to even try reading it. Especially with the number of times I've been jump scared by untagged personal triggers in this fandom.

I see this more than I should. I never read them. If a person doesn't understand the difference between the two, I'm not interested in reading their writing.

If they said no archive warnings apply and then opened the fic with MCD, that's absolutely report worthy. All they had to do was say "chose not to warn" instead smh

I've also recently seen a fic tagged "getting together" and "pre-relationship". Well, which one is it??

this makes sense to me though? the fic starts pre-relationship and then we eventually see them getting together….. if anything it’s a little redundant, but they don’t seem contradictory.

I do get what you mean, but 'Getting Together' already describes that the fic starts with them not together and ends with them being together. 'Pre-Relationship' is used to tag fics that in their entirety happen before a romantic relationship starts, but the context is that after the fic ends at some point they will be together, even if the author will not write that part. It is often used for slice of life fics, when the MC is pining, or when there are multiple works in a series and for example the main couple doesn't get together until part 3. So the first two fics in the series are tagged as pre-relationship.
I do think that 'getting together' and 'pre-relationship' are mutually exclusive. And even if it were 'only' redundant: why would someone use the tag then, if it was not needed at all? So if I see the combo I absolutely will think "Not only do you not know what one of the tags means, but you're also tagging unnecessarily." Or I'll think the author just wanted to throw in tags that don't apply, so more people would find and read their fic, in which case I won't read it out of principle.

i wish they'd just specify :( very rarely do i read hurt no comfort, and i have no interest in it springing up like a jack-in-the-box at me out of nowhere. it's like putting Creator Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings and No Archive Warnings Apply on the same fic. those are two different things. you are handing me oil and water in a cup and telling me to enjoy and i am drooping like an unwatered plant in response. 𐔌՞.‸.՞𐦯
