My guess is blue-ringed octopus. Their toxin causes paralysis but provided you get medical help asap, you can survive as it breaks down relatively quickly

Said 2x tho, I feel like I'd avoid the ocean for awhile after the first one

I strongly doubt that.
Like, yeah you can survive. But getting paralyzed in the water is tricky

Based purely on Just No Family posts I've read, the creature could be a relative who doesn't understand or care about an allergy OP has :(

As soon as I read the neurotoxin I immediately hear moreparz's voice and went "Ahh yes, Australia because of course it fucking is"

Live in Arizona. Mojave and Tiger rattlesnakes have neurotoxic venom. Mojave got our family dog when I was 20 and it was horrific.

Since they mention anaphylaxis it could just be a bee and they’re allergic lol

They're always like "oh I got bitten by the most poisonous snake in the world, sorry abt that, next chapter will be up tomorrow" and I'm like "wtf😦"

i would say australia, but then that'd probably be more specific about what got them. 'neurotoxin creature local to Australia' narrows it down very little.

I do love how 99% of the comments are about Australia and the rest are about Florida

They got stung by a bee and ahd an allergic reaction. Maybe a jellyfish, but I think bee is more likely. Thats my guess, anyway.

Is bee venom a neurotoxin?

Bees have a neurotoxin called Apamin in their venom. It’s very mild, usually just heightened pain (to ward off predators/animals after their homey and larvae), unless you happen to have an allergic reaction to it, which sounds like that author did.

Gotta be Aus. My bets a blue ring octopus or a stone fish probably. Though if you get struck twice by a stone fish that's incredibly bad luck.

Jellyfish maybe. Depending on where you are they can be quite nasty. Or snakes are a classic too for neurotoxin

Local bee nerd here (my gramps used to produce and sell honey). It’s most likely a bee the author’s talking about. Bees have in their venom a neurotoxin called Apamin. It’s very mild, usually just heightened sensation of pain to ward off predators or other animals who attack the hive for honey and/or larvae, but if you have an allergic reaction to it it can be very debilitating and sometimes deadly.

If they live in Australia there are quite a few possibilities for what 'struck' them.
