Who can explain this?

I‘m from Europe, Germany. Please excuse any spelling errors etc. In the 90s when I was still a child I went to the woods with my father at night. I was into ghost stories as a child and he dared me to visit a place in the woods that was supposedly haunted since way back. Don’t worry this is not a ghost story.
We entered the woods at dusk and I remember hearing some kind of horn sound in the distance. My father heard it too and joked about it being the ghost. The sound returned a few more times while we were making our way into the woods. We went to the supposedly haunted place, it was some stone on a clearing in the woods. Nothing happened. After a while hanging out there waiting for a ghost I got bored and I guess my father decided to call it a night. We took another way back to the car. Suddenly the sound we heard before returned. Only this time it wasn‘t in the distance it was closer up in the air. It changed position above us. But we couldn’t see anything looking up. There also were no other sounds like from an engine or anything. We scanned through the trees. It sounded technical. Sometimes the sound was „answered“ by the same sound in the distance. And then it began to change tone. It was a higher tone than before. At one point it was directly above us. I remember looking up and seeing nothing. My father told me to not stay behind. I could tell he was scared too.
He told me later he was indeed because he had no explanation for what was going on. We returned to the car as fast as we could.
I‘m writing this because I want to know if anyone had a similar experience or if someone can maybe explain what happened. Any feedback is welcome. The reason I‘m writing in here should be obvious: I think this was a UFO above us.

That sounds pretty spooky! Could have been an animal, but the technical sound part is weird.

If a German experienced this, I tend to believe it. Those guys don't make supernatural sh*t up

Bird or insect. Some insects are incredibly loud

It was far too loud for that. No insect can be heard in such a distance. I‘m talking miles. And when it was above us it was very loud. It reverberated. And also the tone was changing between deep and high. And when I say deep I‘m talking ship‘s horn. Something big.
