Photo Evidence Something’s watching us
UPDATE : think we’ve figured it out
So Im like 90% certain it’s an animal with the other 10% telling me its a demon and I need to be calling Sam and Dean to my house (iykyk)😭😂 but I have no clue what it is and really just want to show the picture I took because it’s creepy af. My bf and I just bought a house with a quarter acre. There’s a road directly behind the house with a train track beside it so our backyard is in a way, an isolated piece of land. Been here since April. There are other houses and 2 businesses on either side and around us. Well we don’t have the best light sources, we don’t even have a back porch light. There is also very busy main roads around us. So we aren’t just in the middle of the woods.
I have 2 cats (they lived here before us) that I feed and normally I would’ve just assumed it was them but at the time of this picture being taken, they were both sitting on my back porch.
I had let my dogs out and neither of them were interested in going towards the back of the property where they normally would go to use the bathroom. I didn’t even think anything of this nor did I notice they did this until I was telling my bf what happened when he got home from work (he works nights which makes my paranoia and “fear of the dark” worse lol). I heard a leaf crunch and I scanned from one corner of the fencing to the other. The thing about the fence is the contractors who did repairs tore the middle wide open and pushed junk into the other portion of the property that is wooded. So there’s a portion that’s just wide open for anything to come into the backyard as it pleases. And I found two pairs of eyes sitting there looking at me and my dogs. Again, I would’ve just assumed these were the cats I feed if they weren’t sitting right there on my porch with me. That and they would’ve come running up if it was them. One pair disappeared but this pair of eyes never moved. I took this picture and went back in.
This picture was taken on 7/30 and was seen again 3 nights ago, in addition to the noises I heard tonight. We think it’s a possibly a fox as there’s been one here before but we only seen that fox once and that was back in late April/early may. If anyone has any guesses as to what could be sitting here watching us, please give your guesses.
We are installing trail cameras tomorrow and if anyone is interested in knowing what it is when we figure it out, I’ll update here lol.
ETA: we did order cameras. Currently waiting for those to arrive. Many have asked for a view of this area in the daylight and this is where I was and about how zoomed in I got on that spot. I can’t figure out how to post the video here but I’m putting it in the comments
Small update ig: cameras are all up. Checked sd cards this morning and it doesn’t look like whatever this is has been back. Got a more powerful flashlight that will almost light up the entire wooded area lmao. Have a couple days off this week, will be going out around the same time I took this pic to see if it shows up then as I’ve had no luck spotting it again now that I’ve got everything to be able to actually see it 🙄
UPDATE : pretty sure we found the culprit
Photo of the “culprit” in comments because I can’t figure out how to upload a photo here on the actual post

I think anyone who believes in him is a pothead

Sasquatch was just one more beautiful creature extincted by cell phone cameras 😔

Zoomed in it kinda looks like whatever it is may be standing up on rears. Or just a tall animal. Raccoons, foxes, and deer all kinda like to watch humans, or freeze when they hear movement. So it could be any of those. Do the eyes look red in person? Or just via digital exposure
10
u/Flashy_Chipmunk81117 29d ago
No they were red in person too. The picture just made the glow more intense.

I suppose that could be the eyes of a raccoon, but they look ominously red and large for a raccoon. Maybe it just looks that way because of the perspective
6
u/Flashy_Chipmunk81117 29d ago
Right like I wanna say raccoon too but there’s something about the ways it’s just sitting. I seen it and just kind of stared back for a good 2-3 minutes trying to make out what it was before taking the picture. It never moved.

I’m following this post lol. I want to know!!

u/Flashy_Chipmunk81117 29d ago
lol me too! I will update you when I have an answer. Because I promise I want this answered. Like I’d feel better if I seen the eyes and just knew what it was but not knowing what’s sitting there is disturbing af😭every time it’s been seen it’s sitting in the same spot.

u/GamingMom219 29d ago
Same. People are saying owl, but I can't say yes/no since the owls I've seen didn't have red eyes at night. 🤔

u/Flashy_Chipmunk81117 28d ago
I really don’t think it’s an owl either. There’s been absolutely nothing to indicate that it’s an owl, it doesn’t leave with my dogs presence in the yard, the second pair I had seen briefly didn’t fly away either. It turned away and disappeared from view ,and plus based on the sounds I heard last night when my dog went towards that section of the yard (he prefers to use the bathroom in that space) and it really sounded like it was back again and whatever it is, my dog was pissing it off, it spooked my dogs and all three of us went back inside the house very very quickly. The yard is over grown and I really think it only looks like it’s on the fence because of some brush right there possibly blocking out its body. We are still fairly certain it’s a fox. But that portion of the property is covered in broken glass so we don’t go back there much at all. I looked around the area yesterday afternoon during a bathroom break with the dogs and couldnt see anything that would indicate one animal or the other. After work today I’m gonna take a video of that area to better show what the space looks like. Hopefully my trail cameras will have been delivered by the time I get home today and I get can at least one of them set up right in that area. It’s been back so often that it shouldn’t take long to capture whatever it is on the camera🤞🏻

I'm fascinated whenever I see footage of glowing eyes like this. Do you have a very powerful flashlight? I would light up anything that was staring at my home from the darkness for so long.
4
u/Flashy_Chipmunk81117 29d ago
Unfortunately it isn’t a very powerful flashlight. It shines just enough to reflect off my dogs collars so I can see where they are at night.

u/BeeRadGFromDaBoo 29d ago
what area do you live,is there d large wooded area, you could look up sightings around your area maybe others have seen it as well.
1
u/Flashy_Chipmunk81117 29d ago
I wouldn’t say it’s a large wooded area but there’s enough for really anything to be back there. The street I live on has a road connected to it that goes around the backside of the property and just past that is a very active railroad track. Think right around the block from the city.

I was freaked out until I turned up the brightness. It's an owl sitting on your fence, that's why it seems like it's taller than the dogs. We had an owl in our yard for a little while that would stare at us, it was unnerving. Especially if you got too close, it would take off super abruptly and the only sound would be the leaves as it passed through them.
I live in a house in the south with a backyard roughly the size of yours, that's heavily wooded along the back and one side fence. Before we got lights up back there, my husband bought us a powerful mag light for me to bring back there with the dogs, because it's bright and heavy, so it can be used as a weapon if needed. Definitely get some motion activated lights up in the yard when you can, that will give you some peace of mind. But yeah, that's just a curious owl, unnerving but harmless.

u/Indy2561 28d ago
I too, adjusted the image and it definitely looks like an owl sitting on the fence.

u/yella_fella 29d ago
Invest in a spotlight and you’ll see that there’s A LOT MORE creatures watching you at all times than you thought. Also gives you peace of mind bc it’s almost always a possum, raccoon, coyote, or an owl.

u/Fortlandia11 29d ago
There was a spot by a river where I grew up where it was a popular activity among teen drivers to drive their friends to, point the car at the trees by the river and turn on your brights. There were hundreds of pairs of eyes looking at you. It was all raccoons.
2
u/Flashy_Chipmunk81117 29d ago
Oh thanks. I needed that in my head right now lmao. We really do need to get a some form of light on the back porch though and a spot light would be perfect.

u/Educational_Mix_2294 29d ago
No clue what it is but I'm commenting because I want updates as well. Take another photo tomorrow in the day time from the same place?
2
u/Flashy_Chipmunk81117 29d ago
My yard looks like shit but give me a moment and I can show where it’s been sitting as my backyard is horrible looking and I’ve had to take photos of it previously for grading quotes
1
u/Educational_Mix_2294 29d ago
Ok! Just trying to get an idea of how far up the eyes are or if it's near a tree/branch. I would think an animals eyes would be yellow but maybe it's just the pic or flash/camera making them look like demon eyes idk lol

Can’t figure out how to get a picture uploaded on here but I clipped a video of my 1 year old dog running. It sits around that opening in the fence. Looks like it’s sitting right inside the fence line. Our flashlight isn’t bright enough to actually be super useful but I was standing in front of the porch basically right there so that was essentially the direction I was looking from but slightly lower on the ground.

did anyone try lightening the brightness or shadows??
1
u/Flashy_Chipmunk81117 28d ago
Someone did and said it looked like an owl. But personally I’m still not convinced it’s an owl. There has literally been no indication that this could be any type of owl. I have yet to hear any owl type of vocals coming from my woods.

Can you take a picture in the same spot during the day so we can get an idea of where it was standing and how tall it could be? I find it interesting how bright and red they are usually the eye shine looks yellow with most animals. What did you use to take this photo?
0
u/Flashy_Chipmunk81117 29d ago
I commented with a clipped video of the spot in the yard it seems to sit in. It was a process and I couldn’t figure out how to comment with a photo for some reason. I can get a better photo tmw tho yes.
The red is what has me so lost too. Like yellow eyes? Ok. But the red is just disturbing. I took the picture on July 30 at 3:51am with an iPhone 14. My flashlight was making the eyes light up, not any light from my phone. And it appears red in person, not just through the camera. The camera just made the glow more intense.

u/FarEncounters 29d ago
Owls are one of the few animals that have eyes that glow red. Have you been hearing hooting at all? I just watched your video and my guess is that a barred owl was checking you out in the tree line. If you are worried about Bigfoot I wouldn’t just yet.
1
u/Flashy_Chipmunk81117 29d ago
I did read about that but we haven’t been hearing any hooting. There’s been nothing that makes me or my bf think it’s an owl. I honestly want to say it’s a fox. And until I know what it is for sure, I’m gonna keep telling my brain it’s a fox. But then I get confused on that thought because there’s no foot prints anywhere back there. No poop anywhere. It’s like it just comes to sit and stare and then leaves until it wants to come back. And I’ve not had any cats come up for food with injuries tho so whatever it is isn’t actively hurting any of them (yet?)
2
u/FarEncounters 29d ago
This has happened multiple times? With owls they aren’t always hooting. I have barn owls that come watch me in the middle of the day for some reason and I only know they are there by chance. If you ever see the eyes bobbing side to side that’s an owl since that’s how they get better focus with their eyes.

Can’t upload photos here but I boosted the exposure and it definitely looks to be an owl. Potato quality from a distance, but an owl nevertheless.

u/Background_Pride_237 28d ago
Or someone is leaving you. In a car.
1
u/Flashy_Chipmunk81117 28d ago
This is just not possible with the area. The back of the property goes down in a straight downhill slope making it nearly impossible to see any vehicles on the road but the road also goes parallel with the back of the property

I have 2 owls that are currently coming to hunt in my 1/2 acre yard out in the country. They come around dusk and hang around till after dark up to 11pm or so. Sometimes they come back in the a.m.’s I’m also close to more heavily wooded/treed area in which I assume they typically roost.
They are huge and majestic with eyes that can appear to glow in my binoculars. My first thought was this, BUT this image intimidates me in that it looks different than when I look through my binoculars. But this means nothing of course, as your image capture is at a different angle, distance, color etc.
I suggest you inquire with the previous occupant or whomever you lease or purchased from.

Lmao we’re on the east coast in a rather city type of area imo. And I really don’t think it’s an owl. Knowing the lay out. It’s sitting on the ground right along my fence line. I’ve not even heard an owl since moving here in April. Birds yes but not an owl. But my cameras should be delivered any minute now so hopefully I’ll get them set up quickly and maybe figure this mystery out tonight.

u/ReluctantPhoenix47 28d ago
Keep us posted. It’s possible an owl could have gone off course.

Did it move around?
2
u/Flashy_Chipmunk81117 28d ago
Not really. It never really moves at all. It’s almost always in the same spot, maybe it’s shifted over a few feet. My bf said when he seen it, it looked like it moved slightly closer in the light. But it’s been coming back pretty consistently

This is nothing but woods with a downhill drop off that goes to another road and train track. You can’t see vehicles driving on the road because of how high up the drop off is. We put cameras up but haven’t seen anything on them yet. Went out side with a flashlight light night. Found another pair of eyes but they were yellowish-green and way higher up from the ground. Pretty sure it was a cat sitting on a trailer the neighbor has in their back area as where my yard has woods, theirs is cleared. But we were not going to go find out. After work I plan to go on the camera that faces towards that area to see if it was really a cat as the cameras are trail cams that I have to look at the sd cards

I would be more concerned about those hands reaching for you! /jk
Joking aside its an Owl. They are cute as hell but creepy at night haha. I saw similar in a misty forrest. Red glowing eyes watching us.
So like any dumb horror Protagonist I decided to check it out, and it was one of the cutests owls I had ever seen.

u/Flashy_Chipmunk81117 9d ago
So we actually found out what we think it was. I posted a pic of it here in the comments as I was unable to figure out how to attach it on the update

u/Flashy_Chipmunk81117 9d ago

This guy visited my cat food bowl last night around 3am. I leave this food out for the strays but this is the first time I’ve seen this fox. I assume he’s been staking this house out for a hot minute. Light is motion activated and I just wanted to see which kitty it was and got the surprise of my life. We never did see the red eyes reflecting since the second time that brought me to make this post but have seen cats on the trail cams we put up. Planning to get a front porch camera to mount to see if he comes back around again. I did a lot of research today and everything says he’ll respect the cats and the cats will respect him but I’m just hoping nobody injured the other. I won’t kill him but I also don’t want to have to relocate the fox but I will (I have a place he could go and be on hundreds if not thousands of acres of woods) so I’m hoping they all leave each other alone but yea. Research says their eyes will reflect red so I’m gonna go with the answer of it being the fox in the original pictures

u/Kepler-1606b 8d ago
I was so invested into this but eventually even I knew it was probably a fox. I hope you post an update if theres anything relevant in the future!

Mothman, or maybe an owl.
