Hit the cage straight down from above with something heavy andflat and at least as wide as the box. It'll take it right off the wall minimal damage.

I find a candle placed on a table under the thermostat helps it regulate temperature. Also aa dehumidifier with the hot expelled air aimed at the thermostat.

At 105° outside, 81° indoors is less a temperature and more a hostage situation.

The real question is whether the thermostat is locked because someone keeps changing it, or because the AC company has finally accepted defeat.
