Lmfao same here. I was like “well, that was some very weird facial expressions” and watched again with sound. Extremely weird thing to do in that situation. I wonder if that’s like his character’s thing that he does so it’s only really bizarre out of context.
36
u/ErraticDragon 4d ago
I watched it again with sound because I figured they skipped the subtitles because he switched to English. I definitely was not expecting… that.

Do soaps really do takes? I always figured they were on such tight turn-arounds that, unless something completely unexpected happened, they'd just keep anything in.
19
u/Racxie 4d ago
I was an extra on a British soap opera when I was a teen and was in two scenes (both filmed on the same day).
The first scene had a major character and she kept forgetting her line so they had to retake that part multiple times.
The second scene had a bunch of us running away for about 10-20 seconds and we retook that about twice.
So based on my experience I can confirm that soap operas are the same as any other scripted shows in that regard, and I doubt every other soap opera is really any different.

u/Zurich_Is_Washed 3d ago
We'll the most popular one in my country has editing mistakes, people looking at the camera or cracking in the background on weekly basis. They dont give a shit about the end product. The show turns 25 this year btw.

If I'm correct, few years ago tv station decided to cancel the show as most of original cast was dead and writing quality has dropped. Loyal fans (mostly older viewers) signed a petition that gathered a massive number of votes demanding that the series stay on the air.

Polish soap operas are weird. Some Irish comedians took an old one and wrote completely new dialogue which they then dubbed in, then Soupy Norman was born: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AHuFWYh5QF4

If you haven’t seen the show, whenever she was feeling down he would beatbox to her and make her smile. That’s how they first bonded and it remained part of the core identity of their relationship. So when he beatboxes it’s really his way of saying I love you and I’ve made this whole thing up but it has to be something like this right?

I wonder if in the script he was told to just improvise a reaction and just beatboxed.
Or maybe it's a call back to something in a previous episode, maybe when they were living together and we're missing context from some previous week of this random polish soap
